So who still makes smaller drivers?

I've got a Titleist 975J at the moment but wouldn't mind demoing something new and somewhat bigger to see if I pickup some more yards and accuracy. Problem is I don't want anything that's over about 425cc, anything bigger than that I just don't like(and yes I've hit them).

Who makes a late model driver that is bigger than my 975J(which is 312cc) but smaller than 425cc?

I was thinking something in the 380cc area would be about right.

I know Tiger, AK, Duval and probably others have been using the SQ Dymo 380cc prototype, are there any plans for that club to be released to the public?

I'll have to look into the TaylorMade R9(420cc) as well, but I think it's gonna be a little bigger than I want.

I read somewhere that there has been some talk of the Nike Prototype going into production. Check out the R9, it might be bigger than what you expect but it feels very nice at impact. Not sure how much further it goes compared to my driver since I've only hit it at the range.

I am pretty sure there are sure they are going to release the small sumo this winter. I can't confirm this but I have heard of a couple releases coming out in this catagory.

This may be stupid and if it is then forgive me. What about a "strong three" with a longer shaft? My backup R7 3 is a beautiful club head with really nice proportions, I assume there are lots of good looking 3s and a "strong three" might have a loft you could live with.

Sorry, I must have been having a brain fart...I totally missed that you were looking for a 380 cc driver.

I've also heard of the Nike Prototype 380cc Dymo possibly going into production.

I think the new Nike VR Driver is supposed to be <460cc...not sure exactly though.

Also check out the R9 and Burner Tour...I know they are both <460cc

The Titleist 909D3 is 440cc

Not certain of any 380cc...

You can pick up an r7 Quad for cheap - around 400cc

Apparently the new Nike VR Tour drivers are going to be around 400cc as well. The VR Str8-fit will be 460 cc.

Here are pics of the VR Tour courtesy of Golfwrx.com:

One of my favorite drivers of all time is the Callaway Great Big Bertha II. It comes in 380cc and 415cc. I have put my 415cc with steel shaft back in the bag after having troubles with my Cleveland HiBore XLS. The GBBII looks like a persimmon next to the Cleveland. The GBB II can be had for < $50 on Ebay and Callaway Preowned.

In my  Warbird Hot stand bag:
nike.gif Dymo2 Str8 fit 10.5 or  HiBore XLS 10.5,  Steelhead Plus 3 and 5 woods,

 NP2 3H,  DCI 990 4-PW,  Forged + 54/12,  RAC 58/8,

Classic #1,  NXT Tour or  Burner TP

I'm really liking the looks of that club.

I like my 975J-VS but I'm entertaining the thought of stepping up to some brand new tech. I'll be waiting until next spring though anyways, just wanted to get some ideas for now. Winter is in the air here, being an avid snowmobiler and golfer, it's bittersweet.

The titleist 905T is 400cc. I just got one used as an upgrade from my 10 year old no name 250cc driver. I still hit my no name driver really well but just wanted to see what the new technology could do for me. I get probably 15 more yards on average with the new titleist. Although there is a learning period with the larger head. I'm still on the fence on which size I like more.

I still use the 905T for the same reason, feel more comfortable with a smaller head. Periodically try the newer clubs (including Titleist), but the larger heads just feel odd to me. Like the YS shafts and honestly, driving distance is as good or better as my friends with comparable games and newer models.

    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
    • Day 96 (18 Mar 24) - Continued work with the Divot Board with the GW and hard foam balls.  Focused on small target/small miss…setup to hit target about 30yds out - success if it hit within 6’ circle of target, fail if outside.  Had decent success averaging about 3 out of 4 (hitting in groups of four).

    • I'm relieved someone finally defined hiking. I was giddy when I saw these new TPI videos a day or so after they dropped. Very easy to understand the problem and solution the way they have presented it. Been working on fixing this for about a year and a half now. It's nice to be able to call it something so communication becomes easy.  I was working on more lateral and up too, but just having someone define it clearly in video form was so helpful for me to continue confidently with what I thought was wrong and how I had to fix it.  My conceptual error here was just trying to rotate like a tour pro but without including the necessary forward pressure/weight shift associated with enough lateral and upward motion of the pelvis.  This video is great too, as is Greg Rose.
    • Day 2.    couple mins of rolling putts end over end.    10 mins of Slow, mirror work, working on starting the downswing and impact wrist positions. Hit a couple balls into the net after.    Then finished with a couple chips to see if I could repeat what I worked on yesterday.
