I played Classic Club in Palm Desert last year for $25 (Previous home of the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic on the PGA tour). It was a twilight round in July when the temperature was well over 110F but the course was in good shape...and it wasn't crowded either :)

i've played the following

5.(5) OAKMONT C.C. -- played for work outing; incredible course; you will be a better putter after you leave
6.(6) PEBBLE BEACH G. LINKS-- played for work outing; a bit overrated imho but still a nice track
7.(7) MERION G.C. (East)-- played as guest of a member; all-time favorite golf course and nothing else is close
12.(28) CHICAGO G.C.-- caddied there for many years, played many times
20.(11) MEDINAH C.C. (No. 3)-- played for work outing, very overrated
22.(24) WHISTLING STRAITS (Straits) -- paid $250ish to play; awesome course, still like Erin Hills better.
29.(26) BETHPAGE STATE PARK (Black)-- paid $30 to play before the remodel, loved the design, though not sure it is a top 30 course
32.(19) PINEHURST RESORT & C.C. (No. 2)-- paid a bunch to play, incredible shape
46.(51) RICH HARVEST LINKS-- guest of a member, incredibly golf, a thinking man's course; if i ever moved back to chicago would love to be a member here or Black Sheep, much better than Medinah in my opinion
64.(62) INTERLACHEN C.C.-- about 5 minutes from my house, played once for work in a 5.5 hour round which probably clouded my judge, thought it was "ok" not sure its a top 100
67.(39) THE PRINCE COURSE-- after Merion, my all-time favorite course, paid $75 as resort guest; going back in a month and will likely play 6 times in four days; best target golf course anywhere
74.(88) SHOREACRES-- "nice" course, played for a work outing no idea how this course is consistantly a top 100 golf course, just not challenging enough. I shot 76 from the tips and putted horribly. Would much rather play Pine Meadows 10 miles away.
75.(93) HARBOUR TOWN G. LINKS-- paid $200ish to play, great course, impossible to hit greens. you better be able to chip in you play here would love to go back.
91.(89) HAZELTINE NATIONAL G.C.-- played for work outing 2 weeks before PGA; immaculate course, best private course in MN by far

Other top courses i've played that i believe should be top 100

- Erin Hills: pay $70 to play, incredibly test of golf, better than whistling straits imo albeit without scenary

- Willingers: Has everything a top 100 course has except history; better than every course in MN except Hazeltine; pay $35 to play at least twice a month

- Black Sheep: guest of a member, incredible links style course in chicagoland;
Bag: Three Five Yellow
Driver: 905R 9.5 Degree, Fujikawa Shaft Shift
3-Wood: Sumo2 15 degree
Hybrids 19 and 21 degree
Irons tour x-20 (5-PW)Wedges vokey 52.08,56.14, 60.04Putter circa 62 #1: Pro V1Where I usually play: Rush Creek

Like Calc said, if you have a San Diego residents card you can get on Torrey Pines for cheap. Same goes with most courses on HI.

That's the one. I think its even higher on Golf Digest's list. Really fun golf course, and a hell of a deal.

That is an incredible golf course. I live in Philly and have the oportunity to play some great ones but Merion East is one of the holy grail. no yardage markers on the course...you trust your caddie...if he is wrong you are wrong. I personally think the baskets are dumb but I guess I splitting hairs.

Driver- Callaway Razor somthing or other
3W- Taylor Made R11S
3H Rocketballz
4I-PW- MP-59
Gap- Vokey 54

Lob- Cleveland 60

Putter- Rife

    • Day 134 (26 Apr 24) - played Minnesott today, worked with the mid-irons and approaches (especially the 7i).  Scoring was a little higher, but I was focused on making the needed adjustments to the swing to achieve desired distances.
    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
