I will be spending the 3rd and 4th week in Phoenix. What courses should I play. I already have a tee time for TPC Scottsdale on the 24th. What other courses should I try for?

I wanted to play Gold Canyon Dinosaur but it will not reopen after over seeding till the 30th and I will be coming home that day.

Assuming you are coming in October, many of the courses will be early into the overseed grow-in period. A fair warning that many courses will open before the conditions are acceptable given the prices they charge.

I would look for courses that started their overseed in Sept for the best conditions.

Ocotillo in Chandler is a great Troon course. It isn't your typical arizona golf. Lots of water, little dessert.

I think you need to play the following for sure:

TPC of Scottsdale
Troon North
Karsten ASU golf course

These are all target style desert courses....will really test your driver.

Grayhawk will probably be in the best condition of any valley courses being that it will host the Frys.com Open 10/22-10/25. As others have stated, most courses are overseeding for winter. AZGOLF.org has a good listing of the overseeding schedules.

Kind of a long drive but one of the most unique courses I have ever seen. Apache Stronghold. I think it was lke an hour and half drive but I have never seen such a golf course, condition was pretty good but the course itself was probably built on over 1000 acres and is in the middle of nowhere on an indian reservation, they also have a casino and a small airport right across the street. I think the back tees were about 7500 yards or more. Interesting golf course to say the least.

I vote for TPC, Troon or Camelback (either course).

Don't let them talk you into playing forward tees at TPC. Play it from the back, if they have the forecaddies this time of year they'll help a lot, if you need that kind of thing. We played right after the FBR. Not only was the course perfect the view is beautiful.

      For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.

      This is why you should never have any expectations when you play golf even when you think things are starting to click together. In end golf will just curb stump you.
