Tiger has won quite a few second tier tournaments this year. Phil has taken quite a long time off this year and has won the Tour Championshp and the Shanghai event. He had a near miss at the US Open too- considering his personal problems he has performed brilliantly this year.

Tiger is off his game and seems disinterested in the regular tour events but too tense in the major events.

Tiger and Phil played great this year considering their circumstances. Phil with his family issues and Tiger taking a year off due to surgery.

Anywho, 2010 is going to be an exciting year but Tiger will still be #1. :] But I believe Phil will make him work for it though.

in those all-star ridden high profile tourny's that phil won ...... tiger finished


6,9,2,6 ..... hardly struggling at the back of the pack lol and that US Open which was a such a -near miss- for phil ironically finished the exact same amount of strokes ahead of tiger (a mere 2) that he lost by.

mind you Tiger lost by 4 strokes in one of the hardest tournaments played all year during a stretch where even he admitted he was playing mediocre at best golf, while Lucas Glover was playing out his mind (respectively)

Phil is already getting closer.

Look at Tiger, he doesn't have the intimidation that he used to. He's not making the clutch putts and people aren't exactly choking because of him. He's only won one of the last four tournaments he's played in the final group. I still stand by that right now Phil is definitely the best player in the world. If he can take that to next year then he'll take over Tiger for sure.

Man I wish the Masters was next week.

yea tiger hasnt been away for a while in the last year..........o wait 5 months of not even touching a golf club then 3 tryin to get better.......must suck to only win 6 tournys after not playing for 8 months.tigers losin it........

As much as I am a Phill fanatic Tiger has to big a lead in the world ranking for Phill to catch him.But 2 majors for Phill in 2010 sounds about right to me

Who knows what Phil Mickelson will show up in 2010. This isn't the first time he's gone on a dominating run like this but he usually loses it at some point due to various reasons. We'll probably get a mix. I do think the Tiger fear factor is much lower than it's been in the past but that's not something a stretch of dominating wins can't fix. I think 2010 will be a competitive year. Not just with Phil and Tiger but a good core of top tier golfers now but in the end I'd be shocked if Tiger weren't still #1, and with a sizeable lead too.

I figure Tiger is good through 2015 then he will be the next Nick Faldo. Honestly can you hardly wait to hear Tiger call a match!!!

He talks incessantly to his caddy. Did you see those gray pinstripe pants? What was up with that! Exotic leather golf shoes. He walks funny. He's a lefty for God's sake! I liked him better when he was the crazy shot guy who had not won a major. That style of golf fit his persona better. Honestly, once again it is all about Tiger. He has set the bar so high for what a player should be that Phil just comes off creepy compared to him.

Did you see those gray pinstripe pants? What was up with that!

That was the best-looking golf outfit I have seen from anyone in a long time. Very sharp. I think the confidence he got from his pants made him win.

Also, being a lefty is a touch of the Divine. I say Phil wins the Masters and US Open, overtakes Tiger by July, and is killed by Stevie when he asks him if he would like a job shining shoes.

We do this every year. We try to reason why Tiger can't possibly have another year like the one he had, or we try to overemphasize the 'struggles' he had and how he won't be able to overcome them. Meanwhile, we pick whoever the guy who happened to have a good stretch run toward the end, and talk about how he'll scream into the next year and dethrone Tiger.

And it never happens. Has there ever been a year where someone has won more events than Tiger in a year (aside from 2008)? Anyone who consistently claws into contention in every major each year like Tiger seems to? No. There are guys who spark up occasionally throughout the year, and at any given time, there may always be one who beats Tiger. But the common thread is: Tiger competes. EVERY time. I don't care what kind of fall Phil had, my odds are NEVER for Phil to be there every week, and certainly not for any one other person to consistently be there, either.

People drone on and on about 'who will dethrone Tiger,' because, if they say it enough, one year they may finally be right, and they'll pretend their Nostradamus, but the truth remains, at the outset, it's simply never the odds-on-favorite call to say Tiger will go down.

Nothing in the swing is done at the expense of balance.
