Alright so today I had a little lesson with a friend whos one of the pros at my home course. He looked at a couple things in my swing, and i asked him to help me with the 70 yard shots with my sand wedge. He fixed that, of course. (because he's a beast). But it turns out my hands were separating as I got towards the top of my backswing. I never noticed that before. So he had me out there for a good 20 minutes before I finally got it.

So being the retard I am, I asked him if I should do this with all my clubs. Of course I should, so I tried it with my driver. He was teaching me with the driver for about 10 minutes or so (Hey, I'm a fast learner). I hit it the way he showed me.

HOT DAMN.

I gained at least another 20-30 yards on my drives (from a previous 260 yard average). I'm hitting low cutters that stay in the air forever and roll. I almost died from excitement on the 5th hole when I hit one about 320. If I wasn't sweating that much I would have peed myself.

Just thought I'd tell you guys this. KEEP YOUR HANDS TOGETHER.

K I'm done.

Don't worry I already looked it up

Not to turn this into a weather discussion but damn, how the hell does Florida stay so warm all season? Even LA and Phoenix get temps in the 30's in the winter. Must be that Tropic of Cancer thingy.... I told my Ed Jones guy the other day that my number one goal in life was to get a winter condo in Florida.

Hey, that's great man.Know that feeling when something really goes right for you in Golf.

This might seem like a stupid question.. but did he teach you any technique or tell you a thought you should be thinking during the swing to keep your hands from seperating?I mean hands seperating is obviously an subconcious thing you don't intend on happening, but I'd have no idea how to prevent it.But if working on it can make a 20-30 yard difference I'd sure give anything a try!
A great shot is when you go for it and pull it off. A smart shot is when you don't have the guts to try it. ~ Phil Mickelson.

so by seperating, do you means one hand was sliding the opposite way of the other on the shaft? or your hands were seperating from the shaft?

RHPM: Didn't you get into it with someone who didn't believe you drove the ball 300 yards so much so that you made a video proving you could?

And didn't other people, including the guy who seems to run this place, spend a lot of time helping you with your swing earlier? Did you follow up and show that you'd worked on any of those things?

Maybe I'm remembering wrong and you're not that person. Yeah, that must be it, because if it was you, you'd be a bit of a jerk and caught up in your own B.S., and not deserving of help in the future.

http://thesandtrap.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30028 Was a bit disappointing not to get an update. Probably doesn't make you a jerk. And yeah, RHPM, weren't you already hitting the ball 300?

It seems I've gotten myself into a rut here.....Gotta think....whats the best excuse?......hmmm.....

Lol I thought I cleared it up that I was a bit exaggerating about my 300 yard drives and was actually driving it 260/270 in that one thread where me and some other guy had a big fight...?

Anyway, I'm telling you now that I averaged 260/270. Now it's more like 290. Big improvement. I know because my golf instructor uses his rangefinder (Bushnell) when we go out and play, and he shoots from my ball back to the teebox.

Near the top of my swing my hands would separate from each other. My right hand would separate from my left (the palm of my right hand was not together with my left thumb). Apparently this caused inconsistency and loss of distance. He had me put a tee in between my right palm and left thumb and take the club to the top, and keep the tee in place through impact.

I was mostly just teasing you, FWIW.

Though I would have appreciated seeing something come from the analysis and tips I gave you.

You regripped at the top, basically. Probably because you could be in a better position at the top - shorter and with more support beneath the club.

Is that really your GHIN? 2.6?? And your hands seperate at the top of the swing. I find that hard to believe.

The thought crossed my mind as well. Maybe he has an amazing short game?

Sorry. I'll try and see what you said and work on some of it if I can figure out whatever it was you were saying And that's exactly the position I'm at at the top right now, and how I'm hitting it so beast.

I've been playing with that swing for 5 years now. My instructor told me I have one of the best senses of timing he's ever seen. I can time my swing to hit it fairly good and somewhat consistent with a swing like that. But, I've learned it's only gonna get me so far. And lets just say I average a chip in every 2 rounds...

In another post you said it is just a guess. I don't know how you could be a golfer who takes it seriously and not have a ghin number. And I would say anyone who post on here regularly is a serious golfer. I really doubt you would play to 2.6 if you posted everything. I'd play you for alot of money (not saying I have it to gamble with) if you will give me 4 a side. You really need a GHIN number. There is no way of knowing how good you are with a "guess".

I'm as skeptical as the next guy but come on, I dont have an official handicap. I use the one Scorecard told me to with a little tweaking but it didnt really represent my 10/20 best rounds. (because i just got it a month ago and havent played since)

Just because your good doesnt mean you need a handicap. They cost money yanno.

    • Day 549, May 4, 2024 After lessons and working with Natalie, hit some balls for awhile. Just backswing stuff. Forgot about the slightly shorter stuff, though I'm sure it was as they were only about 75% speed with brief pauses.

    • Best drive I've ever hit: I will not be answering any questions about the rest of the hole. Or the round, for that matter.
    • I tried hybrids way back when TaylorMade introduced the copper orange Firesole Rescue, the clubhead having been made of titanium which was still relatively new even in drivers back then. I couldn't hit it well at all, and while the success of hybrids suggests that the modern ones must be quite good,  I'm perfectly happy with the 5, 7, and 9-woods.  Early ones of mine were Top Flite Intimidator 400s made by Spalding... and also made of titanium, now that I think of it.  I still have them in my basement. I do bag a driving iron, but it's a one-trick-pony that never sees fairway use.
    • The last time I played Maxfli balls, Dunlop was still making them. How long ago was that? Mostly, though, I used to play Top Flites (original 336 dimple model) when Spalding was still making them. Now I play the Pro V1x. Last time that I ordered some, Titleist was still making them. Let's see how long that lasts.
