Looking for a ball with low spin off the tee - as I tend to fade - but also able to stop on a dime on the green?

Don't want to break the bank either.....

All suggestions much appreciated.

Thanks

I would give the Srixon AD333 a try, it's a great all rounder. The Nike one vapor is pretty popular too but I wasn't overly impressed with it.

Aren't we all looking for that ball? ;)

I doubt you are going to find a cheap ball that is both low spin on the driver AND stops on a dime. You're likely going to have to settle for good performance on one parameter, and mediocre performance on the other if you want to keep it inexpensive.

I like the Srixon AD333 for a good blend of straight and long, with some ability to stop, but it's strength is definitely off the tee, and not in ball stopping spin. Same thing with Bridgestone E6. Straight as all getout, but not a big spinner on the green. Srixon Trispeed is the same way. WAAAAAYYYYY long and straight, but has very little brakes. E5 from Bridgestone will spin better on the green, but will not be as straight off the driver. If you want something that's going to stop good on the greens, you're going to have to accept some spin on the driver, which is not going to help your slice. I can't seem to think of any really spinny balls that will stop real good that are really inexpensive. Maybe some time spent on getting your swing in better shape would be more helpful in fixing your slice, rather than trying to fix it with an equipment change.

If you do happen to find the magic ball that is real straight, stops on a dime and is cheap, please let everyone know, so we can get on that ball as well.

About the cheapest balls I can think of that spin well are...

Topflite Gamers (but they scuff easy) Bridgestone e5 (not really that cheap) NXT Tour (also not that cheap) HX Bite (I don't like these... don't feel right to me) Maxfli C3 Red (which are actually TM TP Red from 2007 that were rebranded, but I can't find them lately) The Maxfli and Bridgestone have urethane covers, which is really the key to spin around greens... the others are about as good as it gets w/o urethane covers.

I play and recommend the Bridgestone E6 - a "mid-priced" ball. It was recommended through professional fitting process (HotStix) because I am a " High Spin" player and it greatly reduced my spin off the driver. I also find it to be soft enough for my tastes off the irons and in the short game. I've also tried the Rx330, but cant justify the extra $15 per doz. You might also try the E7, supposedly lower trajectory, and I think similar to the E6 otherwise.

Well if you want a ball that spins it's going to fade because a fade is just sidespin on the ball.
So you can't have both of those things.

Give the Precept EV Extra Spin a try, I bought a few thinking they'd be a high spin ball and would hold the hard TifEagle greens I was going to be playing, but they actually were fairly low spin, but with a softer cover that holds the green quite well.

Bridgestone B330S is what I use and I love them...long off the tee and they will check up on the green.

Actually, isn't the Bridgestone E5+ elastomer? That's a cheaper ball, and all urethane covers will spin. Also, Callaway HX Hot Bite is a good ball.

No, it is urethane... had to check it myself when someone gave me a sleeve and told me they were urethane. They are mid-priced, and are only a 2-piece, so they take out some of the tech to put on a nice cover... problem is I think it does tend to spin a hair more off the driver, but I'm not sure.

Wait... I'm confused...

right the e5 is the only cheaper Bridgestone with the urethane cover... and I also have no idea what the Callaway is... never used more than the 2 pack of demo Bites and something felt off with them for me.

Well, if $42 breaks your bank maybe you should get a new job? A box of balls will last a couple months...

1) actually, it's the OP's bank we are talking about, I am all set thanks anyway though.

2) if he mentioned price I doubt he want's something that is in that upper tier. 3) is someone less of a person if they want to be more frugal about what kind of balls they buy? 4) some people just can't justify spending $40 for a box of balls when something will fit thier needs that costs $10-20 5) I can make a box last about 6-8 rounds... which isn't a couple months, and a high handicapper might go through a box in 2 rounds 6) simple math... high handicapper plays 60 rounds... $1200 vs. $300-$500... I don't know about you, but $700-$900 does make a difference to me... I don't like to overpay for stuff for no reason

    • after some years experimenting around, I've settled on a mixed bag of mostly Pat Simmons vintage Tiger Sharks (the ones with the blue enamal on back of the clubheads): 3 thru 9 iron, + 3 wedges (PW, sand, chipper). Those super heavy clubheads really help me get my swing down and thru the ball. Also I carry an old Taylor 18-degree rescue club, 17-degree and 14 degree ImagineGolf metalwoods, and the famous Pat Simmons "alien" 1-iron. Finally a real brick-on-a-stick, the big-headed Bettinardi Ben Hogan model putter which is excellent for taking the break out of short putts and getting the ball hole high on long ones. Wait....is that 15 clubs? Oh well....
    • this topic brought to mind one my favorite golf-spectator memories. Back when, living in Santa Barbara CA, parked in my yellow cab just behind the 10th tee  (c. 380 yard par 4) at SB Muni golf course while eating lunch. A twosome comes by, and first up is this fat little mexican guy who takes a kinda squirelly practice swing, then addresses the ball and bashes a long, high, perfectly straight drive up to w/in about 5 yards of the green. Other guy is dressed to the 9's, pulls out what looks like a $300 driver....and hits a maybe 150-yard pop fly. Slams clubhead to the ground and yells, "it's fat! It's fat! Everything is fat today!!"  And that's how I learned what a "fat" shot is.
    • day 57. Technique practice in the net. Really trying to slow down.
    • It may not be surprising that in the previous 7,064 posts, this particular point has been discussed. To which I will counter: If we're talking about results, why only the majors? Unless you know something that I don't, neither of us are in any position to judge whether Woods or Nicklaus lived their overall life better, not that such a thing is even objectively measurable, nor is it relevant to the discussion.
    • As we've had to tell other people, the topic is which is the better GOLFER, not human being.
