i'd like to see you come straight back instead of bringing your hands inside halfway back into your turn. angle of impact is great, but you are coming out of it a bit and that can lead to some thin shots, especially if you hit blades. but regardless of what you're hitting, you need to stay down a split second longer, take a divot, and follow that ball with your right shoulder like you're already doing. very nice swing overall though.

I'd say he's not. It's more of a bump and a turn than the hard push forward that's required to hit a golf ball well. No divot, ball struck at the low point of the swing, club coming outside to in ever so slightly.

too flat at the top of your backswing

Nah. Just because he's not a two-plane swinger doesn't mean he's too flat. His position at P5 is pretty good.

i'd like to see you come straight back instead of bringing your hands inside halfway back into your turn.

I'm going with the opposite of that. The hands move too much away from the body at the start of the backswing, back straight too far. They need to start swinging on the arc immediately, not pushing away and off of it right away.

but regardless of what you're hitting, you need to stay down a split second longer, take a divot, and follow that ball with your right shoulder like you're already doing. very nice swing overall though.

He'll do that by pushing the hips forward longer. It'll keep the club in a bit longer, too, and push the bottom of his arc forward a little bit. I'd work on the takeaway too, but the fact is by P5 he's gotten to a decent position, so the first thing is to get the hips going, and then to worry about the takeaway later.

P.S. A face-on view would be nice.

on your face on vid, looks like you're transferring too much weight to the back leg in your backswing. that will make it harder to make a good move through the ball and can lead to thinsies if you aren't careful. try to keep your weight more centered or even pushing slightly forward. looks like you're forfeiting a whole lot of power because your weight isn't being transferred to your left side. all your weight on your back leg should be on the inside of your foot, and on the downswing driving your hip turn so you're hitting through the ball and not at it.

Thanks for the input guys... here is the face on... losing angle at impact I know. Any drills for this? or positions I should be in to achive that lag? What else to you guys see. Thanks again.

OK, here's the biggie. You're casting the club, and the lag is gone before the ball is struck. The club is almost moving up at impact here. Followthrough is good, but the impact position needs work. You can clearly see that you've spent all your lag well behind the ball.

Attachment 2280 Just to give you an example, your swing looks much better than mine in the backswing, follow through, and all that, but my impact position is very good. Hence, the move through impact is what matters. This is why I can play so well, despite having a very unorthodox, and ugly swing. Same goes for Jim Furyk, Matt Kuchar, et. all (albiet, they're a bit better than me!) To me, this is where to really test a player, the 10" on either side of the ball. Fix this, and you're going to see some amazing golf shots. To me, the cart comes before the horse in this department. My impact is good, so I don't worry as much about my backswing, follow through, etc. In your case, you need to put the horse before the cart, and solve the problem that's causing the cast. Iacas can probably give you some good tips here, and help you out. Him and his friend Dave Wedzik (I think I'm getting that right) have helped me and many others. I'd listen to either of them first and foremost. And if you're in the coast guard, thanks. I appreciate that, as someone with multiple boats and who doesn't like drowning.

I have been trying hard not to cast, but the swing goes south when I work on it... With my instructor, too. I can get it when I am with him but then the feeling goes away. Drills for lag?

And Shanks, yes, I am in the coast guard, but I am a pollution investigator so no search and rescue for me. But thanks for the appreciation.

You just need to understand the feeling, and what causes it. Lag is generated when the hips, core, and shoulders work in proper sequence, and pull the arms and hands along with them. I feel like my hands are just dead weight, and let my core do all the work.

Martin Hall explains it well: The relay race is what you need to focus on. Once the first "runner" gets started, the others should follow automatically. You MUST not use your hands and arms to hit the club, the swing works like a trebuchet: If you can stop laughing for a second, you'll see that the large counterweight does all the work on the trebuchet. This is your core, it does the work. The other levers merely follow it. Just turn your shoulders back, then slide your hips forward, that's all a golf swing really is.

I see two things:

1) if you stop the video at the 15 or 16 second mark, you have a reverse pivot in your swing. At the top of your back swing, your spine should angle backwards, away from the target or at minimum be vertical. Your spine angles toward the target. 2) You are "swaying" - sliding your hips away from the target a bit too much. There certainly will be some lateral movement but you might find it easier with less. One drill to work on that is to put a vertical plane against your back foot (a chair, tall box) and work on just touching it during your backswing. A tall box is better because if you hit it too much, you will likely knock it down. Just my 2 cents but I think having a correct position at the top of your backswing will help you take care of things from there forward.

I'd say work on punch shots with the idea of keeping the hands in front of the ball at impact. That should help the casting.

I am almost scared to mess with it... shot an 80... 42 front and 38 back would have been a lot lower if I could putt.

i've shot low as well with an inferior swing, but i wasn't actually satisfied. i'd rather hit my irons great and score high 80's than hit my irons like crap and score lower. your irons are your bread and butter. putting and driving will always be up and down, but iron play should stay solid.

I can understand that... The thing is i always have good contact and shot shape, good looking (as in center clubface, i know I add loft) shots just not alot of distance... 150 or so with my 7 iron... That works for me. I do concede that I need to work on the impact position, and will. However I finally have some consistency in my swing, which is a good feeling I may just enjoy for a bit before tweaking. I mean every shot I hit I can get it "somewhat" close to what I want it to do. Thanks an awesome feeling.

    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
