hey guys,

I need to purchase more wedges, I currently only own a 56 degree sand wedge. I am a fairly short hitter. I hit a full sand wedge about 60 yards and my pitching wedge usually 80 yards. I was curious to know if anyone had any suggestions about what degree of wedge to purchase next. I do not have enough money to buy 2 wedges at this time, but was considering either a 52 or 60 degree. Which would be more beneficial to my game at this point? A 52 for the large margin between my sand and pitching wedge? or a 60 so I can take a full swing when I am just short of greens because of my lack of distance?

i would go with a 60, then bend ur 56 to a 55 or 54

I would say get your 56 bent to 53 or 54 and then just get 58 or 60

Ok I hate to say this as a guy who builds clubs as a side job, but if you where willing to play a club that did not say a big name on it you could probly get both wedges right now, golfworks.com sells some very nice wedge heads I like the M series forged heads are around 25 bucks, add a true temper dynamic gold s300 (most big companies wedges come with some sort of dynamic gold shaft) a 3 dollar lamkin pro crossline grip and your looking at 43 bucks for parts and they will assemble it for 10 bucks so get a 52 and a 60 for a shade over 100 bucks.

want more wedges, get them. What's your typical 9 iron yardage?

i don't think you really need a 60 degree if your sw distance is 60 yards. with that club you should be able to cover any distance below 60 yards since a half swing would get u about 30 yards...maybe u would benefit from a hybrid or club like that
i played with pw and sw until a few months ago but i now need a club to hit about 85 yards or less (i hit my 54 105 yards and my PW 120 yards) and that's why i went 54-58.

I think you have to ask yourself how often do you find yourself on the course in trouble because you don't have the right club for the gap between your SW and PW (70 yards)... I'm guessing not very often but I could be wrong. If you really want one of the two I would go 60*, since it can be helpful in certain situations around the green.

thanks for all the input guys. The thing is, my club distances tend to vary due to the fact that i'm playing new irons and a new sand wedge. I am also a fairly new golfer and still have inconsistent days. My pitching wedge yardage can actually vary from 80-90+, and my sand wedge can some days be hitting to about 70 yards (9 iron about 100-110 sean_miller). But, I think a 60 could be more useful around greens and in bunkers. In the end, I guess I should wait until my yardages get more consistent until making a purchase.

Wigolffan - you have played the golfworks.com wedges and have been happy?

Denim-----you made the right choice. Rarely do I hit a full wedge shot. Almost never with a sand wedge or 60* wedge. Get to know your wedges and control the trajectories and distance with each wedge.
Ultimately your gap wedge through 60* distances should all overlap. Just depends on how far forward or back you play the ball in your stance and the finish height of your swing. Also whether your release or "hold off" the finish.

Get the feel for your current wedges. They are your best "scoring friends".

The other issue as you get more consistent will be which wedge choices you will feel comfortable around the greens with.

In the mean time relax and have fun.

thanks for the great points daniel. I agree that getting used to the clubs I already have and experimenting is necessary. I do regularly practice playing the ball back and forward in my stance, but I know I need to practice more on my finish to control trajectory on shots, as you said. Choking down on clubs as a simple distance reduction is a helpful tool to remember on the course. However, having a couple more options around the green wouldnt hurt.

I've said this many times before. Get a set of Adams Tom Watson wedges. 52.08 56.12 and 60.08 for 100$ for all three in a set. I don't need them or thats what I'd have. You'll pay 75 to 120$ for a single wedge in most cases. Good luck with whatever you diside.
