Cleveland putter question and milled putter question

I am considering getting a new putter


I have been looking at the Cleveland vp line of putters. I have narrowed it down to one of the two pictured below. I guess my question is what are the differences? What is the advantage of a milled putter?

I actually have the black one with the insert. I've gamed it for probably half a season and I'm still on the bubble as to whether or not I'm going to keep it or not. Can't decide if I really like the insert or not. Sometimes it feels too hot others to dead (probably my stroke, but I'd never admit it). The aligmnet marks work pretty well. Still toying with going back to a non insert putter. Really liked a Rife I demo'd a while ago.

I really liked the feel of the insert on the practice green, but admittedly it was only a few strokes. I will need to go try both some more before deciding

I have a heel-shafted Classic...sets up somewhat like an old 8802.

I bought it to game if/when I send my mid-slant in for some personalization.

I've given it a whirl on a couple of recent trips to my local practice facility.

Pros:
* grip-feels good and lends itself well to my gated stroke
* lie is same as my mid-slant...no adjustment needed.
* weight is simular to my mid-slant
* nice putter for a super price

Cons:
* my only con is that this putter feels more harsh than my mid-slant. In all fairness the head styles are different. There may be differences in the type of stainless.

I am considering getting a new putter

No real "advantage." It's all about preference of feel. The milling process is supposed to provide a "perfectly" flat surface on the putter's face so there are no inconsistancies. I just switched to a milled face putter last season (was previously playing the Odyssey White Hot series) and love it. Glad I made the switch. The milled face (i.e. non-insert face) makes me feel more "connected" to the ball. Feels more pure, I guess.

Some people say insert putters can help with distance control. I don't know... It's just depends on what FEELS best to you.

What I Play:

Driver: R9 460
4 Wood: G15

Hy: Callaway FT 3Hy

Irons: AP1 4-PW

Wedges: Vokey 52* & 60*, Mizuno MP-T 10 58*

Putter: Newport Studio Select 2.7

Ball: Nike One Vapor

This is really werid cause i have been debating on this exact same two putters. i am going this weekend to go try them out on the putting green. i wasnt sure about the insert on the vp109. i have neverf had a putter w an insert. i was worried about it not coming off the same every time. i currently play a scotty detour. and its just looking BIG to me. it usally doesnt do that.

Make sure you demo with the ball you game. Huge range in feel here.

Soft inserts and soft balls will feel totally different than stainless and hard distance balls.

I am going to demo both again on Friday and then make a decision. I am leaning towards the milled but will see after some more testing

Ended up getting a Rife Antigua. Had no intentions of getting a rife, but after trying it out, I fell in love.

I found the VP nice for the alignment aids, but I liked the milled face because it gave me a more consistent roll.

Demo with the ball you play with on the regular and you'll figure it out in no time. rockbottomgolf has the VP on sale for 60 bucks right now too.

I still have a VP mallet thats on the wall with the rest of the putters I fiddle around with.

I have been using the VP109 for about a year now. After Demoing it one day, I had to have it. The alignment is what sold me. I was cautious of the insert since I was use to using a milled face Never compromise TDP 2.2. After some on the putting green and getting the feel for it, I love it. I have sunk much longer putts and some really difficult putts.
The one thing about insert putters, they are not as forgiving if you hit off the toe or heal. You need to hit the insert and insert only.

      Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.

      Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
