Nike VR Forged vs TM MB

I'm contemplating trading in my Taylor Made RAC M TP irons for a combo set of the Nike VR Forged irons (3, 4, maybe 5 in the forged split cavity back, and 5/6-PW forged blades). I play blades right now and admit that they've hampered my game in the last year since i've moved to them but are finally starting to come around (lessons this winter have changed alot).

With that, I wanted an opinion of people who have the Nike VR series and what they think about them. I've tried all the iron sets out there and have come to the conclusion that the VR's feel and look the best to me. This is coming from a person who's been a life long Nike fan but wouldnt even go near their Nike golf products until earlier last month when I bought the VR Str8 Fit driver. I became a big fan. I've tried the VR irons for a few months and am close to pulling the trigger, but might wait until next winter to really go after them.

Advice welcomed...

I can't give a crazy amount of advice, but I hit a few of the VR forged blades last year at a demo day and they felt like butter, and they were the first blade I had ever hit. I have the TM blades from last year or maybe earlier, but I bought them without hitting because it was cheaper for me to go through taylormade than it was to buy a retail set of the Nike blades (although ebay is an option provided you aren't buying a counterfeit). The Nike guy at the demo day (who incidentally looked like, sounded like, and talked like cleveland from family guy) said that he originally went from playing the split cavities to the full blades after hitting a coworkers because they were surprisingly easy to hit (which again I agree). The 5,7, and Pitching wedge were all easy to hit and responsive, I had trouble keeping the 3 iron up though, so a combo set might be a good idea. Despite my stupidity in blindly buying the Taylormades though, I love them, but I guess if I had had the money at the time, I would've bought the VR's based simply on how good they felt, despite always hearing people complain about every club Nike puts out (usually Ping/Titlelist owners :P). I like them both so its really a tough decision in my book lol.

This is my first post. Glad to be here. Was only able to hit the 7 and 5 in the cage and very was surprised how easy they were to hit. I'm going to have to wait to hit anything else because, I just had surgery for a torn tendon in my left elbow. It will be a few months out.

I can help you w the VR's, as i just hit them a bunch

I hit some TW VR Blades and the new Titleist 710CB's the other day (in search of new irons)
I hit the 710.CB's so consistent and long, it was sick...couldnt miss w them

hit the VR Blades, and i will tell you they are soft...Mizuno soft, I loved the way the feel
But i was not as near consistent w them...when your off, your off ...and you feel it and it shows

this is where i checked my ego at the door and chose a Players cavity (Nike CCi Forged) over the blade
loved the 710.CB's. but my bank account disagrees w me... :)
im trying to make this game easier, not harder

i truly believe that Nike makes some of the BEST irons in the industry
I have tried a lot of different brands, and they are on to something
I think they are so underrated, becasue people have this thing w Tiger...love him or hate him (before this whole waitress banging thing came out) that Nike clubs are just hype

Nike Forged irons (blades, Players cavaties, wedges) are so good it's sick

good luck w your decision....BUT...dont overlook the split cavaties or a combo w the TW Blades - 3-6 Split cavaties and 7-PW Blades??...just an idea (like u mentioned above)

Thanks for all the info. I'm heavily leaning towards the combo set, 3-4 split cavities and 5-PW being forged. I dont have much problems getting the 5 iron up i the air so i'm pretty comfortable there. If cost wasnt an issue, id buy them tomorrow because i'm that sold on them. I think they're a great feeling set of clubs...

I also am hesitant on spending that much right now, but if Golfsmith's trade in and discount incentives add up and make sense at the end of the day, then i'll pull the trigger. Right now, they're offering 15% and 30% on trade-ins, so if I can walk away with trading in my irons and some old drivers (2 in total) for nothing less than $400 and then get the 15% off the list price of the irons ($899), then id walk away paying no more than $350 after all is said and done. If I can do that, then its all game. We'll see on Sunday when I go in...

Not to bring this back from the dead but is there anywhere you can buy a set of split irons? I have been wanting this setup but cant afford to buy two sets of irons just to make it work.

Most golf shops will sell you sets at pro-rated rates. I'm going to pick up, most likely, VR FC 5,6 and VR TW 7-P; the 5&6 cost 2/8 of the "set of 8" price at all the golf shops near me that I've priced them at (Roger Dunn and GolfSmith; I imagine the fraction would be the same at Plaza Golf, but their full set price hasn't dropped on these), and the 7-P (4 clubs) costs half of what a set of 8 would cost. I think this comes out to something like $450 for the set of six irons that I want.

Vote for both Nike irons. I hit the blades yesterday while playing on a par three hole and the 7 iron felt amazing. I am using the split cavity and I really love them. They give great feedback, good shots feel amazing. Hit them both and try and hit them at a range so you can see your ball flight and trajectory; I did and went with the irons I have because of it.

Not trying to be a party pooper, but unless anybody here can hit a high fade, low fade, high draw, low draw on command , whenever they want, then you are wasting your money. Buy some nice forged cavity backs instead. The same feel, with a hair more forgiveness. You will be very happy you did.

No disrespect, you have a good point. But not even the pros do this week in and week out, if they did they would all hit perfect shots the way they want instead of dealing with a bad shot. Everyone is going to make errors. There are times where I can hit a perfect draw and then times where it just comes off square as can be and goes straight with no draw or fade to it. All operator error.

I still think people shouldn't care about hitting clubs for their handicap. If they feel comfortable for that person, buy that new set or that new putter.

Nonsense and marketing. And a little off topic. Go dig up the master blade v. cavity back thread; we've handled this objection many times over in those discussions.

Thanks alot for the info I'm going to a few places tomorrow to try and get fit for my first setup of irons so well see.
