PING G15!!!!!!

Just wanted to share with you guys my driver fitting at my local range a couple nights ago. I was gaming the Callaway FT-5 draw. I tested 6 new drivers from tour versions to game improvement, and although the Ping i15, Callaway FT Tour and Nike VR tour were very nice... I couldn't turn down the Ping G15. It was long and straight, and even on mishits was very forgiving and traveled a good distance. Being a 15 handicap, this is most important to me since some days you just don't have it... lol. My instructor was pushing for an open-faced/tour driver to teach me how to work the ball, but honestly I need to hit em straight and find the most fairways possible.

Here's the list of drivers I tested and an amateur's take on them:

- Ping i15: Really wanted this club because it just looks bad ass!! The black finish looks sweet, but better off with a single digit handicap. Slight push to fade which is not my favorite drive.
- Nike VR tour: Very nice club with the Aldila Voodoo shaft, and although the sound is much better than the SQ drivers it was enough to annoy me.
- Callaway FT tour: This one is great for power fades, but not a fan of those shots. I hit one good drive and I tell you I didn't feel a thing which was very cool.... but overall too unforgiving and not for me.
- Taylormade R9 460: Just as long and straight as the G15, but the sound drove me nuts!
- Cobra ZL: don't remember what shaft was on this driver, but it just ballooned sky high with backspin which is not my preference. Really nice looking driver... wish they had other shafts.

Anyone purchased the G15, or any new driver, recently? What are your thoughts of the new drivers? It's amazing how technology has changed in the last couple years.

Gratz on finding your driver.

I like the I15 driver, also the new callaway FT tour driver is awesome.
I had problems with the G15, we did a fitting and ended up with a 7* and l Low launch, low spin shaft. Much to high ball flight for me.
The best I have found is 8.5 I15 with White board shaft.

I just ordered an i15 after going through all of the newer drivers, but many I hit were excellent. The G15 was very impressive, as was the FT Tour, and Superfast TP for me. I'd say they're all very close in distance, it really comes down to how the package of clubhead/shaft works for each individual.

Awesome, the G15 is a great club. I can't believe you hated the sound of the TM. That's one of my fav parts. Anyway, I'm sure the G15 will serve you well. At least you know they won't replace it for a couple years, as opposed to the rest of the big manufacturers who release a new driver every 3 months.

Good call on the G-15. You did your homework so that should be a good driver for many years to come.

BTW, Bubba Watson uses the G15 with something like 6.7* loft LOL

No way....that's crazy!!

I just ordered an i15 after going through all of the newer drivers

If I were more consistent with the driver, I would've ordered this one too.... maybe I'll be ready for the i20??? lol

I can't believe you hated the sound of the TM

My old Callaway FT-5 sounded like an aluminum baseball bat and it just got old after a while so I was looking minimal sound

Good call on the G-15. You did your homework so that should be a good driver for many years to come.

well thanks to Golf Digest and their 2010 hot list.... It was rated best performance for GI drivers so it definitely lives up to the hype.

What, no GEEK, Wishon, Infiniti, Integra or Bang??? You should try the best.

Infiniti? that's a car brand, no? sorry dude, I've only heard of Geek and they didn't have em.

I have never been fitted for a driver, so I really wouldn't know. However, I notice when tour pros switch club heads a lot of the time they stick with the same shaft. I have also heard that 90% of the club is the shaft. Did you test any of the clubheads with the same shaft? What did you think?

    • I did read the fine print tonight. It said replace with “similar features & function”.  8 yeas ago my purchase had features that today are available on the lower end models and the current version of my model has more “bells & whistles” than what I got 8 years ago.  So I am thinking they honored the agreement and I can’t argue the offer. since getting a credit for the full purchase price all I am really out over the past 8 years was the cost of the extended warranty, which was less than a low end  treadmill would have cost me. now the question is which model to replace with.  I’ll stay with Nordic Track or I forfeit the $1,463 credit so I will get Nordic Track.  And they honored the warranty and were not hard to work with which is a plus.
    • Generally speaking, extended warranties are a terrible deal and should almost always be avoided. They are a huge profit center for the companies that offer them, which should tell you almost everything you need to know about how much value most consumers get when purchasing them.  This is correct, and the old adage applies - only buy insurance when you can't afford the loss. This usually doesn't apply to most consumer goods.  To your second question, no I don't believe the offer is fair. They are replacing it, but it is not being replaced at "no cost to you". Since the amount being disputed (over $500) is non-trivial, I would probably push the issue. Don't waste your time on the phone with a customer service agent or a supervisor. They have probably given you all they have the authority to do. Rather, I would look at the terms of your agreement and specifically legal disputes. The odds are you probably agreed to binding arbitration in the event of a dispute. The agreement will outline what steps need to be followed, but it will probably look something like this.  1. Mail the Nordic Track legal department outlining your dispute and indicate you are not satisfied with the resolution offered.  2. Open up a case with the AAA (American Arbitration Association), along with the required documentation. 3. Wait about 4-5 weeks for a case to be opened - at which point someone from Nordic Track's legal department will offer to give you the new model at no cost to you.  They certainly don't want to spend the time and energy to fight you over $500. 4. Enjoy your new Nordic Track at no cost to you. I recently entered binding arbitration against a fairly large and well known company that screwed me over and refused to make it right. In my demand letter, I made a pretty sizeable request that included compensation for my time and frustration. Once it hit their legal department, they cut me a check - no questions asked. It was far cheaper to settle with me than to send their legal team to defend them in the arbitration.
    • I never thought of looking at it on multiple purchases like you said.  Yes, the extended may help me on 1 or 2 items but not the other 5 or 6.
    • Day 84 - Forgot to post yesterday, but I did some more chipping/pitching.    Back/neck were feeling better today, so I did a much overdue Stack session.
