I was at a golf shop today, and they had the G5 for 300 dollars, and the G2 for 200, and I was just wondering what, if any, of the major differences between them are besides the G2 being like a year older. Also, with the release of the new Rapture, do you think that the prices will be coming down even further?

With the Rapture release, I think it is a fair bet you'll see the G-5 drop down in to the $239-$259 range within the next couple months, maybe lower. Your shop also may be ready to get rid of some G-5 demo's at a reduced price to make room for their Rapture replacements. You can find one on E-Bay now for around $200. I personally, had a higher launch angle and more carry distance with the G-5 than I did with the G-2. I also liked the look of the club at address more. Neither did for my game what the Taylor Made drivers have produced. It seems to me that we (golfers) are nearly crazed with keeping up with the latest and greatest technology, and with a little purchasing self control, could cost ourselves a lot less money for nearly identical technology in many cases. Their have been some major breakthroughs (movable weights, ultra thin faces, etc.) but I haven't seen anything introduced this year that had been a market changer.

I have hit all 3 Ping clubs and I will say this, there is a much bigger difference between the G2 and the G5 than there is between the G5 and the rapture. At least in my opinion that is. The G2 is not near as nice a club as the G5 and the rapture. My advice to you would be to buy the G5. The rapture is nice but won't have near the shaft options that the G5 comes in and you can get them cheaper. Now when considering fairway woods and hybrids go Rapture all the way.

I'll disagree with the above, as I have hit both the G2 & G5 and cannot really tell the difference. I own the G2 and haven't hit the Rapture, but I have two regular playing partners with the G5 (both with Aldila NVS 65 shafts) and I hit them and they feel identical, to me. I think the G5 has more shaft options, and obviously that will make a difference. The only real difference I can tell is that the G5 comes in different lofts G2 = 7.5, 8.5, 10 and the G5 7.5, 9, 10.5.

There is a significant difference between the G2 fairways and the G5 fairways. I prefer the G5 fairways.

You're the first person I have heard that from. Everyone I know switched to the G5 after hitting it. They all hit the Rapture too but didn't feel enough difference to warrant a switch. Guess that's the nature of the game, otherwise everyone would have the same equipment.

yep, different strokes for different folks. I think more than anything the loft/shaft combination can make a huge difference in ball flight, which can in turn make a difference in the opinion. I play the 10*, which work perfect for me as I tend to keep the ball low off the tee and that loft compensates, I think because the result are pretty good.

I've never hit the Grafalloy Comp NT Proto on the G5.

I didn't have the G2 but my Ping pro who fitted me for my G5 does. Different paint job is only difference. And the G5 is a great driver.
