Recommendation on Club Fitting in Chicagoland Area?

Can someone recommend a good dynamic fitting place around the Chicagoland area? I was looking at the Titleist site and they have an advance fitting center in Cantigny golf course in Wheaton. Does anyone have any experience with this place?

I’m already leaning towards the AP2s and Vokey wedges, so I think this makes sense, but I’m also open to any other club fitting places. I just want to make sure I get a good fitting as opposed to some sales man just pushing his product on me. I’d appreciate any input on this subject. Thanks!

Re: Recommendation on Club Fitting in Chicagoland Area?

All I can provide you is some second hand information on a good fitter in the area. I went to the golf show back in Feb. at the Rosemont Convention Center and was in the Mizuno demo area using their shaft optimizer talking to one of their reps. I asked him if Mizuno still has demo days in the area as I might be interested in getting fit for new sticks by one of their factory reps. He replied that the best fitter in the area was a former Mizuno fitter who now worked at Golf Tec (fairly certain that's the location he said) in Oakbrook. I don't recall his name (Dave maybe?) but he was described as being a young fellow and kind of "qurky". I'm sure if you call there they will know who he is. Also, I have no idea as to the cost for a fitting.

As a side note, Cantigny has a good pro there, Connie Demattia, who is listed as #11 instructor in the state. That doesn't attest to his fitting skills but I would be comfortable with that knowledge if I were to go there for a fitting.

Hope this helps.

ChicagoGolfGuy, thanks for your insight. The only reason I'm hesistant with going to GolfTec is I don't think their club fitting would be covered with a purchase of a set of clubs. Because I know with some places, the fitting is included with a price of the club purchase. But maybe I'm mistaken.

That's good to know about the pro at Cantigny. I will call and ask for him/her. Thanks!

If spring grove isn't too far for you, there's a really cool place called "Pro Circle Golf" on the eastern edge. Although I didn't buy anything from them really, they were really helpful and told me about the demo days they had coming up where if you get fitted/buy on those days you actually got a percentage off of the price :P It was just a fun little shop/range/mini-golf place just off the highway.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that's really far up north for me; it's over an hour drive.

So does anyone have experience with Cantigny's fitting center or just Titleist fitting in general? http://www.titleist.com/clubfitting/

I figured lol, especially with traffick added in. It's only a 45 minute drive from here, but I still rarely make it down there. Isn't there a golfsmith somewhere in Chicago too?

jamo - Really? I've been to that range a bunch of times, but never actually stopped by at the golf store inside because they close early. I don't think they have a launch monitor or any kind of fitting machines, although I could be wrong. I guess I'll check it out the next time I'm there. Thanks.

DP - Yeah, I usually go to a Golfsmith in Schaumburg which is only 15 min away from me. But I'd like to go to a real fitting professional. I think people that do fitting at places at Golfsmith are more of a sales person.

The best place in Chicagoland IMO is Club Champion Golf. They have 3 locations, Willowbrook, Northfield and at Cantigny Golf Club in Wheaton. They have all equipment needed to perform custom fitting and various packages to choose from. You can get all the information at their website www.clubchampiongolf.com

Re: Recommendation on Club Fitting in Chicagoland Area?

I'll throw in a vote for Mark Pekarek at Greengrass Clubfitting in West Chicago. He's been in business for 20 years and has done great work. I'm happy with all the clubs he built for me. Their website it not the best, but they are very helpful on the phone.
