I hit a Taylormade tour burner 9.5*. I tee the ball very low the top of the ball is just above the club head maybe even under! I have a great trajectory if I get a good shot, but I struggle with either hitting the ground first or driving the ball into the ground about 6" infront of my tee... If I tee it up I seem to hit it to high.... Hmmmmmmmm

I would say you are staying on your back foot trying to help the ball in the air. You add loft to the driver, but you move the lower part of your swing arc further back in your stance, whiich brings in grounding the club and topping the ball. So i would go see a pro and ask him to take a look at your swing. I bet its your weight shift is not getting over to your left side and you loosing your spine angle, your butt comming towards the ball in the downswing.

For me i like to see half the ball above the clubface, just rule of thumb. Its not an exact science.

Golf Mag did a study a while back and found that this was the optimal height (again, more or less) for accuracy and distance. It doesn't work for everyone, but it's kind of the standard.

I love the old saying, tee it high and let it fly. I see these people with tees that are monsterously long and they tee it up so the ball sits above the clubhead, then i just see them pop it up half the time. I rather see it teed lower. At least then if you top it, you can start to correct whats wrong with the swing.

I tee the ball quite low, about a quarter of the ball above the top of the club face, I always have a nice flight and contact, however this weekend I hit 2 drives in a row where the ball popped very high and left (almost lob wedge flight) as if I went under the ball, not sure what caused this or how I got the driver under the ball, did not feel like I hit the ground?

I tee the ball pretty high...a tad bit more than half the ball is above the clubface. I never pop it up and there are no sky-marks on my club. You just have to put the ball further forward in your stance to catch it on the upswing and not the downswing or at the bottom of your arc.

I tee pretty low, and I've managed this marvelous display of physical impossibility, haha. Only thing I can figure is hands out in front of the club too far and the club face coming in at a sharp angle that catches the top of the club. That's, of course, I guess I pulled entirely out of my arschloch.

I skyballed a three-wood today. Not quite sure how I managed that one... I tee my 3w almost like an iron.

actually 1/2 the ball (a bit high or low) is about right. eh and wildcorndog,,,make sure it is leaning forward towards the hole,,,it will go further!!

I've started teeing the ball a lot lower with improved results. The ball just barely pokes above the the driver head now. I also have the ball inside my left foot by about 2 balls. I also make more of an iron or 3 wood swing now. I would have to take a video to determine if I'm hitting down, catching it straight, or hitting up on the ball. Personally, I can't make a swing where I'm trying to hit "up" on the ball. I just tee it lower and make my usual swing now.

I am a firm believer that the ball position in you stance is just as important as the tee height. There is no one perfect set up for every driver and every tee height. If you adjust the height a little, you might need to adjust the position a little also to adjust. My advise is to grab a bucket of balls, go to the range and just play around with different tee heights and ball positions. It might be that for your swing and club, you are better off with a higher tee height, or lower, or maybe you need to play it more in the middle of your stance and higher, or towards the front foot and lower, or the opposite of each. Play around with it a little, and I'll bet you can figure out a perfect set up.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I was surprised how low the pros teed their balls at the last tournament I went to. Half the ball above the club face was definitely the max height I saw, and only a couple of guys did that. Everyone else was much lower.

I feel it depends much where your ball is in your stance, some are paying from about the inside of their left heel and some are playing from about the toe of their left foot, the further forward the more likely it is you will hit the ball in an going up movement. I would say about half the ball at the top of the face and maybe a little higher if you have the ball further forward.

With wind from behind I personally like to tee it a little higher (just less then about 1/10" - 2-3 mm) and into the wind about the same lower ....

I don't make it a science, but to me ..... the longest drives come from balls meeting the clubface just above the center, sure I am not that good that I can do this all the time, but teeing up at about half the ball above the top ridge of the face, gives me a lot of optimum hits....... although I am not a long hitter (ave. 260 carry).
