I've read the specs between the two balls, in that one is a 3 piece (Tour D) and the other is a 4 piece (Tour). I'm interested in trying out either ball this weekend, and just wanted some feedback if anyone has tried either. Im a big fan of the TaylorMade TP Black ball, which I know is a direct comparison to the Tour D (from what i've read). Any insight would be helpful...

Any comparison to the Taylor Made TP Red/Black balls is a rocky road. The Tour D is the lower spinning distance ball, more like the ProV1X.

Tried out both balls and went with the Tour D for 2 reasons:

1) Tour D is a lot cheaper now; discounted more so than the tour
2) Less spin produced off the tee. Unless you are super good with your driver, i would avoid balls like to pro v or tour. However, the tour d, still has a softer feel around the green. plus, by providing a little less spin than the tour, the tour D will give you more distance...seeing that you have a similar handicap to me, i think that's definitely more important

Agreed. I wouldn't go from the Taylormade Black to either of the Nike balls. Just my opinion...

I really like the tour over the tour D.

I wouldn't say that (though I love the TM balls), but what I meant was that Taylor Made's classification of their two golf balls was very foggy, not to mention they tweaked them after the first generation. Thus it is hard to compare them to other manufacturers. The 2nd gen balls say on the package either "for high spin players" or "for low spin players" and it is fuzzy on whether "for high spin players" meant "for people who generate a lot of spin" or "for people who need a lot of extra spin." I think iacas once posted which is which, but for the life of me I still have no idea/don't remember.

Of the most recent generation TP Black/Red, the Black is the spinnier ball and the Red is the slightly firmer, slightly longer ball. The Black would be your ProV1 or One Tour, and the Red is the ProV1x or One Tour D.

I've played the Nike Tour ball for a couple of rounds now. It seems to be the shortest ball I've played from the tee box and from long-mid irons. This is probably because I don't have a very high swing speed and probably don't compress it. It also does seem to enhance side spin on miss hits.

It feels great for the short game, though. Spins and checks very well...and I like the feel of it off the putter.

Think I'm going to try the Tour D to get some added distance.

What I Play:

Driver: R9 460
4 Wood: G15

Hy: Callaway FT 3Hy

Irons: AP1 4-PW

Wedges: Vokey 52* & 60*, Mizuno MP-T 10 58*

Putter: Newport Studio Select 2.7

Ball: Nike One Vapor
