Im looking to purchase one of these two sets. I've read about their differences on the PING website; I'm just wondering if anyone has opinions or experiences that would sway me one way or the other. Im wondering if the extra $$$$ the Rapture V2's cost is worth it?

Thanks for the advice and information. This is my first post; I really appreciate the help!

In my opinion, I think that you should go with the G15's. The Raptures are a bit too expensive, and I don't think it's worth spending $600 more. The G15, from what I tried, are a very good club. In fact, I know of a guy who switched to G15's, and he's near a 5 or so handicap. Another option may be the AP1's, but don't let me influence you too much, I'm a pure hacker.

In the bag:
Driver: 907 D2/Proforce V2 R-flex
Hybrid: Burner '07 3 Hybrid/Re-Ax Shaft/19* (4* draw bias)
Irons: AP1 4-7i
AP2 8-PWedges: Spin Milled Tour Chrome (52.06/56.11) VR Forged Chrome 60.06Putter: Ignite 001 Ball: Pro V1/ One Tour/

Thanks for the reply. Oh don't get me wrong Im a hacker too. PING G15's seem to get real great reviews for high handicap golfers. I also like the appearance and quality of their clubs.

Thanks again!

I have the G10's, similar to the G15's, and I like em alot, but it's really hard to get used to the bulky look/feel. I've played 6 or 7 rounds with them. They hit very consistantly, and for a high handicapper like myself, that is definitely a good thing. I have also hit the Rapture's at the store (not on the course) and I don't feel too much of a difference.

For my round tomorrow, I am switching back to my old X20's to see how I do with them.

I definitely wouldn't pay the extra for the V2's. I didn't know they still made the V2's, but what do I know. Anyways, the G15 would be just as good as a club IMO, I almost bought some but caught my Cobra's on a great sale, but the G15's are much better than my Cobras as well, once again, IMO.

Their MPFs are similar - the Rapture having a slightly higher value. Ping categorizes the Rapture as SGI and the G15s as GI. Other than forgiveness, they appear to be similar clubs in design.

My opinion, for what it's worth: unless you have some particular problem with swing strength (very out of shape, frail, etc), you will probably do better with the G15s than with the V2s. However, since Ping is notoriously good about selling individual irons, you may want to get, say, 7 through some wedge (whichever you want to stop your set with) in the G15s. Determine from this if you think you'll be able to handle the 5 and 6. If so, get them. If not, you can spend the extra to get those particular irons for the Rapture series. Repeat for however many irons you intend to have in the bag.

This is almost exactly what my plan was. I was going to get 6-PW/SW, as I have hybrid 3,4 and 5 that I really like. According to the golf shop I spoke to yesterday, its not different in price if i order the clubs individually vs ordering the set. The clubs are priced the same no matter what. This makes them pretty affordabel, as I wond have a 3,4 or 5 iron just sitting around. If I want I can order them later as well.

I think the G15's might be the way to go.

From what you've said, I believe the G15s are the way to go. However, I want to add something: You list yourself as considering 6-PW/SW; I'm not sure if you mean "6-PW or 6-SW" or "6-PW and a SW." If it's the latter, I'd caution you: the PW in the G15s is 45°, and the SW is 54°. You may want to consider the UW (serves as a gap/approach wedge) in the set as well, if you aren't going with separate wedges beyond the PW.

The nice thing about the G15 wedges is that they have generous bounce angles: 10° on the PW, for instance. This will give you lots of greenside options. Their TOUR W wedges also have great bounce angles.

That is good info! Do you know what the degree is on their UW?

The Gap/UW in the g15 is 50*. I got my G15's Monday. I've played 3 times this week. They really are great clubs, very forgiving and very solid. I bought 5-PW then I bought 48*, 52* and 56* Vokey's to go with them. I also hit hybrids instead of my 3 and 4 irons. I couldn't justify the cost of Raptures over the G15 because the G15's always felt just right to me. I hit them at demo days and indoors a bunch of times before buying.

Its all about feeling right! Thanks for the info! The G15's seem to get great reviews and will probably last me for several years. Of course until something better comes around next year! From what I have heard and read, PING clubs seem to hold their values better than most clubs?

See my earlier post on the G15s. I'm buying them on Tuesday at TGW. The Raptures looks very expensive, so I'm running with the G15 5-UW and keeping my 54 & 58 Vokeys.

Why not try the G10 irons - they are pretty much the same and they will cost less. Ping irons are always pretty solid in my (biased) opinion. :D

I should probably try the G10's as well. The only difference I'm told is a little more toe weighting on the G15?

    • Day 10 (10 Jun 26) - Played in the midweek shootout at my home course - on aerated and sanded greens - day of trying to figure tempo to get the best roll on the greens.  Approach game was decently solid as was shots off the tee.
    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
