Ok, so I currently own TM r7 draw irons. I bought them new but never had them fit. I went to a local clubfitter with my eye on the mizuno mx 200s. So we determined that standard club length and lie is good for me. I did try out the mx200s and i love the feel. I am in lust with these irons. He said he'd give me 150 for 8 r7 clubs. I dont need the 3 iron so i would only buy 4-pw...he quoted 612 for that. that puts the total at 462 plus tax. seems like a pretty good deal to me but my question is...Is it worth it, irons for irons? Will i benefit from the mizunos enough or should i stick with the r7s and wait till a later point to upgrade? Would you consider going from r7s which are game improvement to mx200 which are also game improvement, an upgrade? Thanks for any advice.

If you think you're ready for the switch, then by all means go for it. The MX-200 are what can be termed a "player game improvement" iron. They're easy to look at, feel great in the hand, and while they aren't hard to hit (they will help you a bit), they're not oversized GI shovels. They're also forged in Japan or Thailand (wherever it is Mizuno does this now) and they feel buttery smooth on impact. Look at the aggressive sole grinds, these irons were made to execute some real life golf shots . They clean up well too. Whatever creedece you give to the Malby MPF ratings (I remain largeley skeptical), you'll find that the MX-200s are rated pretty low in terms of forgivability (Classic Player class I think). I was cross shopping mine against some 07 Cally X-Forged (which are outstanding), but I ended up slightly prefering the Mizunos in nearly every facet.

when i swung the club today i fell in love. but i get like this when i "HAVE" to have something. I really liked the look and the much smaller clubface compared to the r7. I was hitting an old set of blades that a friend on mine had not to long ago and i loved the feel. you could really tell when you hit a solid shot. now i by no means need blades but i would like to move into something forged. oh and that buttery feel is a perfect way to describe it. thanks for your reply...my fiancé and wallet might now thank you but I am a member at a local course so at least i wont be buying clubs and then not have money to play. That sucks

If you like them then go ahead, the difference in feel is worth it IMO. If the shafts in the 200s work for you I see no reason for you not to proceed. I have the 200s, not the first set of Mizunos for me though, I love the feel, playability and looks. The stock shafts were not a good fit for me so I upgraded to KBS Tour, smooth feeling with a nice trajectory.

If you have money burning a hole in your pocket go buy them. They may or may not make the game more enjoyable for you. Your game won't improve becuase of the clubs though.

Is there a golf reason you are looking to change? If you are changing to get more consistency, more control, more forgiveness, more distance, etc. etc, then go for it. Tread cautiously if you're changing just because you haven't been fit if you hit your current sticks well. The R7's are fairly new technology. I know a few people who have made changes and then not been as happy with their new, fit clubs. I don't think they realized how happy they were with their original set. Of course, I know people who made the change and have been very happy as well.

I currently play R7's. Love them. But I was not fit, so I keep telling myself if I go get fit then I'll be able to play so much better. I've come close a few times. But to be honest, I hit my current R7's fine. Consistency in my woods and putting is where I need work. So I've stopped myself. Anyway, I'd say change equipment for specific golf reasons and try not to over think things.

The R7s (draw or otherwise) are excellent irons--still very viable despite the many models that TM has introduced since the R7s. I have a set of the R7 draws backing up my Wilson Di9s. But hey, if you want to go for the MX200s, go for it. You might play the MX200s better, or you might struggle more with them. No way to know until you are out on the course. But they're obviously great irons, with nice forgiveness and the forged Mizuno feel. Good luck.

Thanks everybody. I am going to go to golf galaxy tomorrow and see if i cant swing the 200s pw or 8 iron. I was wowed the other day at the way i was swinging the 6 iron. I usually start to have issues from my 6 iron up through the longer irons. So i would like to see if i am wowed by feel of the shorter clubs as well. I have alot of work to put in with whatever clubs I have but I am really lusting over the irons.

I had the Mx200's and did like them.

I changed for MP57 because the ball flight was too high (I play a very windy course), and I found them a little light

OK so i found a dicks sporting goods that had mx200s in stock today. I did spend a little time hitting the 9 iron and the ball flight was very straight. even my bad mishits were respectable. the only problem i had was the ball flight seem very high. I lost 10-15 yards. now this was on an indoor simulator but it really worried me. could the shaft have anything to do with this. I dont remember what shaft was on this demo set. My r7s have more of a low running ball flight which I am alright with. I had wanted to get the ball up allittle more but the 9 iron i tried today was a little too high. but still the feel of the club was great

A low running flight with your irons? That's no good imo.

    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

    • If you walk up to a food/drink kiosk at Magic Kingdom and ask the person for a cup of "magic water" they will give you a small cup of Sprite for free. About 3 fingers worth. They don't sell alcohol at MK anymore so I go over to one of the courses while she hangs out there.
    • This isn't some kind of natural fact. It's a lot more complicated than this implies.
