There's a 9-hole course (Marovitz) in the city (Chicago) that runs along Lake Michigan on one side and Lake Shore Drive on the other. Hole 8, a short par 4, runs adjacent to LSD separated by a fence, tree line, jogging/bike path. I've seen a few drives go right at the traffic but never seen one hit a car though until today.

Guy tops his drive. Guy hits his next shot that goes over the fence and bounces on the highway. On the bounce up, the ball hits the side of an ONcoming van. I say a curse word cuz that's the first time I've actually seen that.

We're all still standing near the guy that hit the ball when we see a ball land 5 feet in front of him. The other are looking for the culprit when I realize what happened. I tell the guy to look at the ball to see if that's the ball he hit on to LSD, and yes, it was the same ball. Unbelievable.

That's better than the "Off the Porta-Potty" shot in Tin Cup.

I saw a guy hit a drive that ended up going backwards about 40 yards the other day...nailed a tree about 60 yards out, went high in the air, and landed a few yards off the back of his teebox. Freakin' hilarious - except that I was in the group behind them and now it was going to take an extra few mintues to play the hole

I drive this section of LSD every day and see golf balls at the side of the road. I keep waiting to see one hit a car but I have never seen it yet. At least it wasn't you who hit it out...lol.

Does that count as FIR?

Even par through 9 is my best.  I don't even want to think about what was my worst.

it's unbelievable that a net hasn't been put up yet on that hole. the course gets so many hackers and most of them aim way left (away from LSD) on that hole which only makes the ball slice even more. combined that with the crazy wind and it's just a bad accident waiting to happen.

the worst was when one guy kept reloading his drive and put three in a row on to LSD. has to be one of the most dangerous holes in the country.

Sometimes a net won't help. When I first started I had a really wild swing where I would take the club back like John Daily and well it never really came back in line to the ball. There was this hole next to a freeway lots of passing cars and a huge net for safety. Well I took the club back and then swung through and it hit the red tee ball ahead of the white tee's it bounced up and left onto traffic and I could see it bounce off a semi truck and then bounced again off another car and probably continued on the freeway for another 200 yards. Luckily no major damage and nobody came looking for me. But I never expected that to happen.

That's a pretty crazy example. In this case, a net would stop 99.9% of the errant shots.

Funniest thing I ever saw was up at Skamania (mountain course in SW Washington). Guy is driving off the 1st tee, just then a maintenance vehicle goes by up the left hand side on the cart path (slow day, late fall), his drive hits a tree on the left side, about 150 yds out, bounces straight back and takes one bounce off the cart path and lands in the pile of sand in the back of the truck as it goes up the hill. I don't even think the driver (of the cart noticed. We yelled at him to dump his load up by the green.

Par 3, 165 yds.

One of the guys I play with regularly hits his tee shot right, and it hits near the green, bounces, then catches the cart path. It then proceeds to come all the way back down the path past where we teed up, leaving him about 200 yds in. It took about two minutes for it to make it all the way back, and we were cracking up all the way as we were cheering it further and further away.

Priceless.

In the terms of crazy drives, I caught my drive once. Shanked the drive into a tree where it ricocheted right back at me and I caught it with my glove hand.

There is a course near me that is right along a state highway. 18 championship holes plus a small executive 9 and a driving range. The driveway is right next to the driving range with no net so it can be kind of dangerous when a hacker is on the range. Back when the driveway was gravel you could see all kinds of range balls in the road, The drive has been paved so now they shoot over toward the 18th tee. The championship course is somewhat back from the highway and has trees guarding it but the executive 9 is right by the highway in many places with no net. One hole (95 yard par 3) actually plays toward the highway. However, The worst part about it being next to the highway is the D-bags that yell "FORE!!!" out the windows of cars as they drive by.

I h it a snap hook 2 weeks ago that went over 4 lanes of traffic and we all stood there just waiting for the ball to smash someones windshield but it just missed then missed a group of 4 joggers and hit a sloped wall \ in front of someones house and bounces back over the road and into the fairway. NO B.S. We were all scared ishtless we were going to see a bad wreck or see some jogger get drilled with a drive that we stopped watching it once it past the people and all of a sudden my fried says fairway. Holy isht its in the fairway!! And sure enough its almost dead center fairway with a perfect approach shot possible.

    • I get kidney stones. So 100 oz of water every day. Some nights I drink 32oz between midnight and 6 Am. Which means I dont sleep much.
    • 46 (9 over) Short game and putts were awful!
    • 46+40 for an 86. I just need to play 9 holes on the range before each round. 🤣🤣🤣
    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
