Last time I was on Launch Monitor couple of years ago my numbers with Driver were Swing Speed:95.8 Launch Angle: 12.4 Spin Rate: 3447. Searching to understand the Optimum numbers for Max'ing out distance with Driver -- what am I trying to achieve for Launch Angle and Spin rate? And is it more important to achieve the spin rate objective or the launch angle. (I presume it may be harder to lower the spin rate enough to get to the optimal number). Is there a chart somewhere I can reference that would show optimum launch/spin at a various swing speeds?

Have a read of this article , which explains the basics quite well.

Which Rombax shaft do you have in your driver? Your spin rate is high.

My numbers from today...

SS 115
LA 14.5
Spin 2350

This is with the Adams driver in my sig which is a 60g Fujikura shaft. I hit the ball 290-320yds (GPS) here in south Texas in the summer.

I have the Rombax 5X07, I believe it is a 55 gram shaft. I was 'fit' into this shaft a couple of years back by Hotstix in Scottsdale. I agree that my spin rate is 'high'; probably because I tend to get steep, come over the top and hit a cut/fade. I'm sure my swing needs work, but I was asking about 'goals' for Launch Monitor launch and spin rate at my Swing speed. My avg Drive is 235-240 including roll at 95 MPH.

From the article linked above, your launch angle looks to be a bit low, but without knowing your ball speed it's hard to say. If you assume you have fairly typical amateur contact quality, the ball speed is probably 132-137 mph. Spin is probably too high as well, so my guess is your typical shot goes out low and lifts a bit at the end, probably costing you some roll.

I recently had my swing checked, and optimal ball speed for my swing speed (93.5 mph) was about 138 mph (I only realize 128 mph, since my contact is rather poor). The "ideal" numbers for that ball speed are a 13.5 degree launch and about 2500 rpm of backspin. Since you've got a slightly higher clubhead speed, you can achieve that ball speed without improving your contact as much as I'd need to, but the launch angle and spin numbers should be the same for the same ball speed.

In the bag:
FT-iQ 10° driver, FT 21° neutral 3H
T-Zoid Forged 15° 3W, MX-23 4-PW
Harmonized 52° GW, Tom Watson 56° SW, X-Forged Vintage 60° LW
White Hot XG #1 Putter, 33"

    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
