Hi guys, new to golf so this might be silly question but ever since i started playing (2-3 weeks ago) my right hand and fingers hurt and especially more when i close my fingers.

Is there something wrong with my grip? I hit about 100-150 balls everyday for practice.

Please let me know what am i doing wrong....

Thanks,
Aneesh

You are hitting alot of balls, and I am pretty sure your grip is too tight.

your are also using new muscles in your hand that may not have seen a strain similar to hitting a bucket of balls..........if after awhile the soreness is still there then u need to fix your grip like alomar123 says.......

Keep it where the mowers go!

Thanks guys, i guess i will try to see what happens after a few more weeks, and will work on the grip if this continues...cheers!

its because you never played before. Your now using your fingers to hold a weight that swinging in an arc at 100+ mph. Since your hands use smaller muscles they get fatigued quicker, but you will get use to it. Just rest them, maybe a little ice would help the recovery.

Assuming that you are in a righty golf stance as your profile indicates (right hand down lower on the club), the above replies make sense. You can also do wrist and finger exercises to stretch and build up strength (forearm curls, reverse curls, squeeze ball,...). Just take it easy at first...

About 50-60 golf balls are all I need to hit at one range session. After that I am just whaling away and not learning.

My right hand is hurting. It's an 'arthritic' ache. But just in the right hand. Started with this golf league I just joined, so I know it's related to golf (I also play drums once or twice a week, so it could be a combination of the two, or maybe the drums doesn't help it or aggravates it further).

I play a round of golf on Monday evening (9 holes), and then a small par 3 round on Sat or Sun to prepare for the Monday round. I'm not like the guy up there hitting 150 balls a day. In fact, I've laid off during the week to try and let the pain subside.

Could be that the grip is too tight; I am working on loosening the grip. But man...does it really ache.

Well, now your back's gonna hurt. Cause you just pulled landscapin' duty.

zeitgeist Registered User "My right hand is hurting. It's an 'arthritic' ache." Where exactly is the pain in your hand? Is it in the palm or the finger joints? Do you have an issue with any of your fingers 'locking up' or the joints feeling 'clunky? I've suffered and suffer from tendinitis and arthritis in my hands off and on. The two conditions require different treatment so it's important to make an accurate diagnosis.

Was looking for answers to this. i also had pain in my right hand at the range even only after hitting 4 or 5 balls! (hadn't swung for few weeks though). Was making good swings but still bad shots and pain.

I tried loosening my grip slightly and not trying to control the club head, rather letting the club work around my body as i turned. Instantly no more pain in right hand and crisp contact! Gonna keep working on it.

Hope this helps anyone. ps i'm quite young (30) and would say quite strong built with fast swing speed.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
