I got fitted for the Bridgestone E6, but it's not working out for me. There's a sale on Pentas right now, so I'm wondering if this ball is good or in the same area as the bridgestone e6. thanks!

what exactly about the E6 is it not working for you?

and if you're trying out the Pentas, what are you looking for in a ball? More spin? Less spin?

It's just not going very far, my drives were only flying like 230 even with good hits. It was weird.

I'm pretty happy with the Penta, although I don't think you'll notice a jump in distance at all.

You should only really go to a Penta if you're looking for more spin and feel, comparable to the Titleist Pro V1x. If you're looking for distance, perhaps a 2 piece Distance ball would be the better option for you, like a Slazenger Raw Distance TI (24 pack for $15-20). Maybe even the Srixon Q-Star or Bridgestone E7 (Piercing Flight). Give the 2 -or- 3 piece balls a try. You would be able to lower the cost of the ball that you play and still retain performance as well. A buddy of mine is around your handicap, which I was once upon a time last year as well, and now plays the D2 Gamer (Top Flite) and Srixon AD333 or Q-Star. I do believe Golf Galaxy still has the 2 dozen Srixon AD333 for $25.00 deal going on through the holidays. Half the price of the tour balls, that is to say if you're buying them at full retail through Golf Galaxy or Golfsmith, Dick's Sporting Goods, MC Sports, etc.

For the price mentioned above though, if you can get a few dozen of Pentas @ under $25.00/dozen, that is definitely a score. The best deal I've seen on that ball was the Buy 2 and get one free @ Golf Galaxy (3 Dozen for approx. $80).

The Penta is superior to the Bridgestone e6. The Penta will spin quite a bit more than the Bridgestone. If you'd like to compare a similar ball to the Bridgestone "e" series try the Srixon tri-speed TOUR. I believe those are on special right now too, at least local to me they are. 2 for $40 something I think… Pentas are on sale buy 2 dozen get 1 dozen free. So are the Srixon Z-Stars…

Seriously, I think almost every mid to high handicapper gets "fitted" for the e6, or so it seems… e5,e6,e7...

In my Ogio bag.

Titleist 910D2 driver, Adams irons & hybrid, Callaway wedges & a Nike Method putter.

And a yellow ball.

I have had a similar experience with the e6's. I was not fitted for them, I simply just gave them a try, but I was not in favor of how they performed for me. It absolutely could have all been in my head but it seemed as if I was unable to hit consistent quality shots with the e6, and it is has a relatively hard feel especially while putting. I played the Provx1 for a long time after, and have recently changed to the Penta. I really like the Penta, and they are much cheaper ( here anyways @ buy 2 boxes get one free) than any of the other top of the line balls.

    • this topic brought to mind one my favorite golf-spectator memories. Back when, living in Santa Barbara CA, parked in my yellow cab just behind the 10th tee  (c. 380 yard par 4) at SB Muni golf course while eating lunch. A twosome comes by, and first up is this fat little mexican guy who takes a kinda squirelly practice swing, then addresses the ball and bashes a long, high, perfectly straight drive up to w/in about 5 yards of the green. Other guy is dressed to the 9's, pulls out what looks like a $300 driver....and hits a maybe 150-yard pop fly. Slams clubhead to the ground and yells, "it's fat! It's fat! Everything is fat today!!"  And that's how I learned what a "fat" shot is.

    • It may not be surprising that in the previous 7,064 posts, this particular point has been discussed. To which I will counter: If we're talking about results, why only the majors? Unless you know something that I don't, neither of us are in any position to judge whether Woods or Nicklaus lived their overall life better, not that such a thing is even objectively measurable, nor is it relevant to the discussion.
    • As we've had to tell other people, the topic is which is the better GOLFER, not human being.
