For the longest time I struggled not to hit a pull. I finally figured out what has been causing that pull.

When I stand too close to the ball, there is no way I can swing in to out at it. Why? Well, I would miss the ball completely on the OUTSIDE. The only way I can successfully make contact is to swing OTT.

The easiest tip I've heard of to hit a push draw is to focus on the inside back of the ball. When I stand farther away and reach out, It's almost impossible to hit a pull fade (which isn't a terrible shot, but it's not the proper way to swing the club because it requires an out to in path to be successful). I can still push fade it if the clubface is too open, but visa versa is true with standing too close and OTT you can STILL hit pull hooks.

I'd say a push-fade is a much better miss than a pull-draw if there is no trouble on either side.

If you struggle with this, give it a try. I'm finally not pulling the ball when I draw it :)

Posted this in another thread, but it all starts at your stance and address. Without a nice "linebacker" stance I have no hope of executing a proper golf swing.

I was realizing this too, this past week. I was standing too close to the ball and forcing myself into a swing path I didn't want.

I discovered this similarly this year. I found that after I got my swing working correctly from inside to out, I has hitting everything off the heel of the club. My solution was to line up more at the toe, and eventually realized that I had to be simply standing too close to the ball. I occasionally stand too close to the ball, which usually results in a pull or a duck hook, but problem basically solved.

Interestingly enough, Martin Kaymer just brought this up last night on the Fix. He said when hitting a draw, he sets up a bit further away from the ball. This results in 2 key things for shaping a draw: I allows him to come more from the inside without getting stuck, and it flattens out his swing plane a bit more.

Your desire to change has to be greater than your desire to stay the same.

Luke donald has tape on his club shaft to check how far out the ball is in his stance for each club.

I guess he lays the club down between his stance toward the ball.

Too steep happens too me lately as well. ball seems to keep creeping back toward me.

I just fixed this with my son. He had been addressing the ball almost with his hands against his legs, and he was hitting pulls or slap slices. Now I have him sticking his butt out more with about 8" between his hands and legs and he is crushing it.
