Stand Bag Questions

I am in the market for a stand bag. I've always used a cart bag and have a few questions and can't seem to find any good answers anywhere.

-How do stand bags hold up in carts? Does that mess with the stand mechanism at all?

-How reliable are the stand mechanisms?

-Do smaller openings create problems? My old cart bag doesn't have full-length dividers, so maybe this would be less of a problem. It also seems like stand bags are shorter than cart bags and more of the club sticks out and they're more accessible. Is this true?

-Which manufacturers would you recommend? I've been looking at Callaway, Sun Mountain, Titleist (apparently made by Sun Mountain?), and Ogio.

I have an Ogio bag and really like it... the material around the opening however is wearing away after not that much use.  When I do finally replace it, I'm getting either the Sun Mountain Four 5 or the comparable Titleist (I think I like the straps on the Titleist better).  If I remember correctly, the Sun Mountain (and Titleist I believe) were redesigned this year to fit better on the cart as well.

I have a Warbird X stand bag by Callaway and it is okay on a cart. It has a strap to make sure the legs don't open. That being said if I could do it over I would look into Sunmountain there bags just seem way better.

I have the Titleist Premium Stand Bag and I don't care for it as a cart bag at all.  The mechanism doesn't allow the bottom to fit correctly and it the clubs are not as easy to pull as with a cart or staff bag.  It is great for walking or taking to the range though!

They're fine. If you get a 14 way, they're just as good as a cart bag. Most bags have a little strap to hold in the legs for carts.

Very. Some more than others. I love the TaylorMade legs with rubber end caps for more stability.

If anything it'll be less messy since each club has its own opening.

Can't go wrong really. A bag is a bag. Pick a company you dig, and a color and just go with it.

Nike and Sun Mountain both make a stand bag that has a 14-way divider. I've used a lightweight Titleist 6-way divider stand bag on carts fairly often without any problems. I walk as often as I ride cart so I still need to keep my bag fairly light. If you are like me and walk from time to time, I'd suggest getting a lightweight stand bag over a 14-way divider bag that's a good amount heavier.

I have a Titleist light carry bag that I got last year for Christmas.  I think it is great for carrying my clubs to the range and when I walk.

However, when I try to get my carry bag in the cart, the mechanism does not allow the bag to fit in straight.  I have to always put my bag in at at angle.  The mechanism is kind of bulky for a cart thus it gets hung up.

I've had my bag for a year now.  No problems.

My Titleist bag has some full length dividers but the clubs get hung up some of the time and I have a challenging time to get my clubs in and out.

I like my Titleist bag, but my old Ogio bag seems to work better getting the clubs in an out, and fits in the cart better.  The only reason I bought a new bag was that my Ogio was beginning to fall apart after several years of use.  The pockets were not zipping up, etc.  Check out the Ogio and make sure to put some clubs in the bag at the store to see what it is like to pull a club in/out of full bag of clubs.  Something that I wish I would have tried.

Are you referring to pull / push carts or driving carts?  As far as a stand bag that will fit in a driving cart, I would recommend the Ogio Grom.  It is a great stand bag that is made for riding as well, as it has a nice rubber strap that will secure the bag to the back of the golf cart storage cage.  I know my bag will never fall of the cart.  Nice insurance.

I recently bought an Eagles & Birdies stand bag (Arrowhead) and would recommend it to anyone

It has 14 way dividers, the legs are the thickest I've seen and best of all it has a sand compartment!

Not sure if they are available in the states but I'm sure you could get it online

I just got a Sun Mountain MPB and love it.  It has a 14 way divider, cooler pouch (works), putter tube, and the legs can be zipped up if you are going to be putting it on a cart.

Well, I finally got the Titleist bag today... I'll let you know later how it works out on the cart, but I suspect that the bag will be great.

I have an Ogio Grom that I love. It is designed to be a cart and a stand bag. It is a little heavier than a regular stand bag, but only by a couple of pounds. It is not very noticeable. You can easily adjust the amount of extra balls, etc. you carry to make up the difference. It causes no issues in a cart. It rides just fine!

No problems whatsoever with the stand. One of the legs of my old hoofer would occasionally get tangled up, but I have never had that issue with the Ogio.

I have not had any issues with the opening on my Grom. It has the Woode top. I have never owned a true cart bag, but there are no issues with accessibility of the clubs.

I like my Ogio Grom very much, It works like it should, and I originally liked it because of it's looks. Win/Win for me!

I currently use a Titleist stand bag and love it. Some stand bags I've had were made poorly and the legs get loose and flip down when walking. I've had the Titleist bag for 3 years now and its still great. As far as cart space, I've not had any problems.

Speaking of the legs on a stand bag, my Callaway bah legs doesn't retract right away when I pick it up. Can they be tightened or is this just a design flaw?
