this is the first time ive ever watched my swing on video. never had a lesson, everything is self taught through reading and tv. my typical shot is a slight draw, and after working on the wrist hinge suggestions last night, I immediately picked up 10 yards. What do you see besides a really tall dude looking like a fool. one thing that stands out to me is my left leg gets a pretty good bend. contact is very good, most shots are in the center of the club face.

First two are of a full swing.

and finally, a knockdown shot i use for high wind days.

You're right about the left leg it's caving in and is causing you to sway back and forth. It's probably also causing a flip, but I can't really tell because it's too blurred.

Try to stay more centered over the ball. Keep the left knee stable, and turn more with the shoulders and hips.

This may be a stupid question, but what is the proper height to record the video? Would video'ing the swing from a standard plastic outdoors chair (2' or so high) effect the angles and appearance of the swing?

Been working a little more on the swing. ball flight is pretty straight, if not dead straight, a 5 yard draw at most. Driver distance is 280 carry. 7 iron in the video here is 165 to 170 carry.

I definitly see it. My coach has been getting me to try what he calls a "single plane swing". The results have been pretty good, but looking at the swing on video, its just not appealing to the eye. The biggest thing I see is starting outside (he claims its due to breaking my left wrist twice, it compensates for my bowed wrist at top). Is this something to build on and valid, or should I start looking for a different swing?

a bowed wrist at the top isnt really a bad thing. just look at dustin johnsons swing.

i would though try to change your backwing and get rid of that outside path. you dont have to if you dont want but i think changing it would lead to more consistent golf shots.

if you do want to fix it just get a show box and but it to the right of the ball and back a little bit. if you take the club outside you will hit the box.

alright, went out and worked on taking the club straight back and starting the downswing with my left knee for about 3 hours. anyone see any progress or degress?

its better but your still taking it outside a little bit. i would still suggest putting a shoe bow or something there so you can take it outside.

the one other thing i see is your flipping at it. try keeping your wrists hinged for as long as possible. one thing you can do is take your backswing, take your right hand off and hook the shaft with your right index finger. then take your downswing and you can pull the shaft back with your right finger to ingrain the feeling in your mind.

look at this:

Hey guys. Havent watched my swing on video in over a year. I have lyme disease, so I found that my flexibility has been greatly reduced. Been on antibiotics 2 weeks now, and the constant aches and pains are starting to lessen. Biggest thing I see is that my left knee flexes in a little too much, but I think it may be the extremely  baggy jeans. Left wrist may be slightly bowed, but not sure if thats a huge deal or not.

Thoughts, opinions?

    • Another reason I'd take second place with the meltdown at the end is, at least for our tournament, second place prize money is pretty good. Where as outside the top 25 gets nothing.
    • Personally, I like to buy new clubs whenever my wife will let me. 🤣 JK - While I do like shiny things. I think the advice @iacas gave you is really good. When you get a fitting it's always wise to compare what ever your hitting to your everyday gamers.
    • So, I've been there before.  Grip changes always feel wonky.  First things first. Getting a swing coach is always a good idea.  Having said that, if you need a quick fix to get you through the round and it feels way too wonky to switch your grip to a less hooded grip, one thing you can do is hit the ball with your club shaft more vertical. That tends to eliminate the extreme duck hook. (Please note this should be a temporary fix to get you through. I'm not a swing coach and you should get one.) But, if you swing with your club shaft more vertical you can counteract the hooks. This can be accomplished either by moving a bit closer to the ball, or what I like to do is literally swinging with an effort to get your hands just a bit farther from your body. (A little goes a long way here.)  Once again, I'm not a swing coach. I'm also not recommending making a compensation to compensate for a compensation. That leads down a road to despair. But sometimes you just need to get through a round.  I've used this method to get me through a round and it works for me when I'm suffering from iron hooks. By the same token the opposite can work. If your fading the irons too much drop the butt of the club a little lower and it will automatically make you hit it with more draw. BTW - I don't know if I mentioned it, but I'm not a swing coach and you should get one.
    • Hi All, I recently got back into golf after a 5 year lay off (Covid and life issue related) and what started out as a really great return to the game has very quickly gone to pot! I have developed a very extreme duck hook with all my irons, I'm hitting fat, and at some points I hit it so bad the shooting pain in the back of my hand is excruciating.  My question is, I have noticed that after taking my grip, with the face aligned to target, I take a practice swing, but I appear to re-grip the club and when taking my address position again it is very hooded. To make it even more complicated when I tense/straighten my arms in the setup position it squares slightly, and when I relax my arms it hoods again. If I twizzle the club round in my grip from hooded to square again it feels strange and I hit the worse feeling shots of my life Randomly the more I weaken my grip the more it hooks Has anyone experienced this before or can understand what is going on?
    • There's not been a lot of activity in this thread, clearly, but this is a pretty exciting time for hockey fans in Washington DC.  Alexander Ovechkin is a hat trick away from becoming the leader in goals scored.  I know the national media are also making it a big deal, and it really is.  I can certainly remember when Gretsky's record seemed unreachable, and now Ovechkin passing it seems inevitable.  My wife will be at the game tonight, cheering for the caps, but cheering for Ovechkin, maybe even more.
