Awful experience getting driver fitted at Golf Galaxy...

So, this doesn't seem like a bad fitting to me. First of all the driver you were fit for is ideal numbers for that swing speed. Secondly swing speed isn't the only factor when determining what is the right shaft flex for you. My guess is that with a stiff flex you would of been spinning the ball a little too much.

I agree that this may not of been the best fitting in the world as the salesman did not inform you of what he was doing. On the other hand he seemes to know what he is doing as that seems to be the perfect driver fit for you.

IF you are confused by what happened, try a fitting at another place. As the doctors say - get a second opinion. I'm a bit surprised you got a bad deal at Golf Galaxy. I got fitted for a driver in November 2008, and it took about an hour. The pro had talked to me about driver possibilities a couple of days before, so we were both on the same page. I still have the printouts from the six drivers I tried - including the one I bought and still use - and use them for baseline comparisons on newer drivers I try.

This is a really weird first post.  It doesn't sound like an "awful" experience, you were able to hit a number of different clubs, and found what seemed to be the best for you (the numbers look good to me).

Of course there are less expensive alternatives to a current year driver.  Did you ask your fitting guy this question?  He might have had the Titleist 909D2 with a Diamana shaft right there in his store.

I think you've got to understand that the fitter probably does this more than a few times a day, knowing that most of the guys will not be buying any clubs.  If you wanted a true driver fitting, it will cost you (perhaps the cost will be deducted if you bought a driver). But for what you paid, it sounds like you now know what shaft works for you, at least.  Not a bad deal, IMO.

Well i guess the term "awful" is relative, i expected alot more feedback on how i was hitting as i had seen prior with another fitter in the session before me.  I guess I need to know what is going on to feel any sort of comfort.

Did you ask questions?  The suggestion (D2 set-up) sounds reasonable. You walk into a golf shop and he fits you for a mainstream club. The S vs XS can be a lot of things including spin, dispersion, and transition speed. I guess my other question is were you looking to buy a driver or just looking to kick some tires? Another reason for the lack of feedback is to remove any prejudice (positive or negative) you may have had about a product when you are swinging into a net to get to the driver that is best suited for you. If you go back again, tell the guy that you are looking for something on sale or a 2010 so that he doesn't put you into something that you won't buy because of price point.
