Putting inconcistency on the golf course is a really bad thing...every time i step up the the ball to put i find myself jabbing at it or hitting the wall or what not.  it seems that im afraid to hit the ball to the hole with a little authority.  does anyone have any good tips to get down a nice solid putting stroke?

Thanks in advance!

Simply practice rolling the ball to the hole with your hands and without the putter.   You can build confidence knowing that you can roll the ball smoothly to the hole and with good distance control.

Now practice putting for 15 - 30 minutes everyday, there is no substitue for practicing, you need to put in the time to become an excellent putter, no short cuts.

I can see where you are coming with regarding not using a putter.  Using just your hands to roll the ball will give me the ultimate feel that i need to finally hit the putter.  The other issue is wedges from like 100 yrds out...what a pain in the trap!

Thanks for the tip

Don't know what his hands will do for you, but whatever.

I have to agree with his suggestion. I tried that years ago when I finally decided to try and be decent at golf. It worked for me then, and I should probably try it again now since I'm still getting back into it.  Good luck

I coulda sworn I left the cart right here......

After aying yesterday, I realized that with the wedge shots from around 100 yards I tend to leave the club face way open and completely shank the ball. It is hard to keep my wrists from breaking wide open. Should I be breaking them or trying to keep them locked from this distance? I can hit my 56 degree about 110 max... Thanks

When you say breaking your wrists, do you mean opening the club face?

I think if you're trying to hit a sand wedge 100 yds I would definitely open the face, that's what I do. I think it's a timing thing which I feel like only range time and repetition is what will cure you. If you hit 100 balls at that distance you're going to have the confidence to hit it again. Or you will find another club maybe a gap/aux. wedge or even a pitching wedge.

Just make sure you pick a club where you don't have to try and over swing to make it 100 yards.

The approach wedge it is! Also when I tend to chip within like 30 yards, I always seem to get way under the ball and do a flop shot...to cure this should I close the club face and take shorter swings? The bump and run isn't really a problem.

Putting: try thinking that the ball is transparent to your club and the first surface you will contact is the front edge of the ball. That way you won't brace for a "hit" on the back edge, and will get the feeling of stroking smoothly through the ball.

Shanking your wedge: get a lesson. There are several reasons that could be the cause.

I am a no hands guy putting style. I try to keep my left wrist as quiet as possible. i tend to push with my right hand, feeling the angle in my wrist staying constant. I then feel out the putts by varying the speed of the putter and the distance back. I never try to use the same rythm for each putt, there are to many distances and to much fine tunning to do that. If i need to hit one longer, i will rock my shoulders more and get a bit of upper body into it. But mostly, i just feel out the putts.

Same for me, that's why I putt left hand low, it really takes out the wrists, and then it's just a question of rocking my shoulders.

My theory on left hand low is, why not keep a convential grip, right hand low and switch to a left handed putter. But i see alot of good putters who have a little wrist action in there stroke, i know a guy who drains putts all over the place. you get a wedge and a putter in his hands and he amazing around and on the green.

going back to the wedge...i think that i might be putting the ball to back in my feet.  i tend to deccelerate when i come into it thinking that i will always shank the ball and send it screaming across the green.  i guess it is sort of a mental thing?!?!?!?

its funny how the littlest things can sometimes make the biggest differences!
