I think I've traced most of my swing woes to overswinging. Try as I may, I can't stop from swinging way past parallel, a la John Daly (without the spectacular drives). None of the tips I've found online are doing it for me. Have any other chronic overswingers managed to find a cure?

If your swing isn't affected by the overswing you need to ask yourself why you want to change it.

If there's an actual reason you want to change it here are some suggestions to go through and see if specific ones help (don't just go through and apply them all!):

  1. Turn tour rear foot so that it's perpendicular to the target rather than flared.
  2. Keep your left elbow straight during the backswing.
  3. Don't over-flex the right elbow during the backswing; keep a 90 degree angle at the very most.
  4. Keep your grip firm but not tight.
  5. Retain the pressure points between your upper arms and your chest (tees in the armpits drill)
  6. Maintain a flat left wrist during the wrist cock.
  7. Imagine you're doing a 3/4 swing.
  8. Flex your front knee less on the backswing.
  9. Maintain right knee flex a little more.

My pro got me doing the 3/4 swing thing as per the other guys' suggestions, but I couldn't get it until we used a camera because what I thought was a short swing was nothing like it. I just couldn't tie up what I thought I was doing with the reality. So, if you can't progress with the tips above add in a camera and watch yourself - the feedback will hopefully get you to home in on the swing length you want.

I had the same problem for years.  I took my first real lessons in 1997, and after watching me hit a few the pro kept telling me to try a half swing, so I did.  Turns out that what feels like a half swing for me was taking the club to parallel.  Learning that feeling had a huge impact.

Today, I know what a "real" half and 3/4 swing feels like, but I still have to constantly work on not over swinging.

This may be the true root of my problem. I have a cupped left wrist during takeaway, which is another issue I've always struggled with. What's strange is that I can keep it straight without a club in my hands, but not with one.

I did when I first started for a few months but I had lessons and was able to correct it pretty fast.  I just tried to feel like I was 3/4th or even 1/2 swinging for a while then it just starting becoming natural.
