I was hitting some balls with my driver today at the driving range when something weird happened.

The head of my driver flew away with the ball. I had to stop everyone and go get the head at like ****ing 100 yards.

I was so embarassed. Everyone was like.. wow a ping driver so unlucky. I've attached some images.

My clubs were made specially for me since I'm 6'5. Do i have some kind of warranty for counterfeit clubs.

I did not hit the club on something hard or anything, just usual impact. I've had them for 4 years now and I aven't played much with them so they are relatively new still. So gay i don't have money currently to buy a new driver so that means my golf season is done :(

Your golf season is far from done just because your driver's head flew off the shaft, especially with a 25 handicap.Β  I highly suspect a wood can become a replacement club without your scores suffering.Β  You do not NEED a driver in casual golf, it is often just a frustrating amateur golfer ego booster.Β  I have not played my driver on the course in months and my scores are only improving.

I'm just curious - what does your being gay have to do with having money to fix your driver?

haha i'm not gay its just an expression something like so frustrating or so bad whatever.

And as for the replies saying golf season is not done.

I hit 240-260 yards consistently with my driver. I do slice a lot but still I make a lot of distance. It's useful especially on par 5. So if you were in my position, would u guys just use a #3 club or even a 3iron ?

For one, its not an expression, its a slur.Β  That would be like saying something is so, "incineratorz" when you really mean something is stupid or something sucks.Β  Please stop saying it.

For two, you can absolutely just use your 3-wood.Β  A lot of people dont even use their driver because they cant control it properly.Β  They would rathar have 200 yards out in the middle of the fairway over 250 yards in the woods.

Yes, it's not like you are participating in a tournament.Β  You might even find your game will improve due to greater consistency considering you said you slice your driver a lot (which tells me you probably also end up with a lot of less than desirable lies).

I should try just keeping the driver in the bag and hitting 3-wood off the tee but alas my ego gets in the way and I try to hit driver anyways.Β  I guess for me the issue is that the head on a driver is so much bigger than that of a 3-wood that my ego tells me theres no way that I could be better with a 3-wood, even though my brain knows better.

As for the counterfeit club ? anyone experienced this before ? It's the first time i saw a club head break off the shaft.

I will call ping and see if they can fix it for cheap since the g10 must be worth like 125 bucks nowadays

Just because it broke does not mean it is counterfeit.Β  There are a lot of possibilities for why it broke...

Even if you had to buy a new shaft for it, you likely would spend less than what a new driver would cost you.

Yup.Β  I snapped the shaft on an old Wilson driver the other day and at no point did I think that it was a counterfit.Β  It seems like quite a lot of the newer shafts, especially on drivers have issues with the shafts breaking.

It is a fairly simple fix, you can probably even do it yourself with the right tools. You may lose an inch or so on the shaft but tid be a serviceable club until you can afford a new shaft.

Driver shafts snap in that area for apparently no reason sometimes, but generally with a higher handicapper, or newer player, there is a common reason for it to happen, they will swing steeply down at the ball and sometimes hit down into the grass(or mat if your hitting at a driving range with mats) before the ball, weakening the area where the hosel and shaft meet, normally the head will not snap off on that exact swing, but it will weaken it enough that continuous, even proper contact will cause the shaft to snap at a later time(sooner if the club is swung into the ground again), and the fact that it doesn't snap off on that exact shot will cause these players to think that it is the club and not something they are doing.... A lot of my friends are just taking up the game, one has been through 3 shafts on his driver, as soon as I got a good look at his swing, it was pretty apparent what was going on, two other people I know, who are brand new to golf, have had the same problem, none think it has anything to do with them, but they all have the same common swing flaw that leads to this... 2 different club makers/fitters ive spoken to have told me that they see it happen a lot, and 90% of the time it is for the reason I mentioned above. My advice? Well first off, please never express annoyance or frustration by calling something "gay" it just makes you sound ignorant, and it's offensive. I'm assuming you are younger in relation to most on the forums, speaking like that just makes it more difficult for people to take our generation seriously and just reflects badly on our generation(I'm assuming you are around my age) on the whole..... Secondly, go take a few lessons with a pro, fix your swing before you worry about fixing your driver.... It may very well be that the club breaking had nothing to do with your swing or with you at all, the club may have been defective, or it may have been a chance occurrence, but judging from where the club broke, the way it broke, your higher handicap, and my experience seeing it first hand with other people leads me to believe that it has to do with the way you swing the club and your angle of attack..... Any teaching pro will be able to tell you almost immediately after seeing you swing a few times what the truth of the matter is. Hope this helps. Jay

This.

The only time I use my driver is when there's plenty of fairway to work with and I'm fairly confident that my swing is good enough that day, otherwise it's a 3W off the tee or even occasionally my 4H. Realistically you're only losing out on a modest amount of yardage by using the 3W.

Look at it from the perspective of you being able to learn how to hit the 3W off the tee for the rest of this season and get it repaired over the winter.

Also heads breaking off clubs is part of the game, albeit a sucky part. My old Benross hybrid snapped the head off when teeing off one day when I first started playing. I assumed it was because I caught it so far out of the toe that the twist of the head against the shaft snapped it.

LOL, then I can expect for my driver's shaft to break at some point.Β  I have certainly hit the grass enough due to an incorrect swing plane, particularly when I first started.Β  Luckily I am now resolving that problem.
