If you want to clean your golf shoes (leather only, no suede), then i would highly recommend saddle soap. Can be bought at your local drug store, but it cleans up golf shoes nice, and actually softens them up to.

Never use water, water dries out leather.

The Australian beauty secret is R.Williams Leather Care Cream.  It's 100% lanolin. I work it into all my shoes using my hands. Afterwords my hands feel softer too. As far as I know there's no American equivalent except Bag Balm.

People use both products on their faces so you know it's not going to hurt expensive shoes.

From E-How: Bag Balm can be used in various capacities around your home. If you don't have any non-squeak spray handy, try it on hinges that squeak.  Rub a little onto an old, soft rag to shine leather shoes. Buff the shoe well after treating it with Bag Balm for a rich shine. Another personal use for this product is to heal tattoos.

R M Williams make a leather conditioner that is beeswax and Lanolin, maybe its the same thing, I use it on all my leather shoes, it is very good for the leather, it does however make dust stick to the shoe...R M Williams rfecommend it for their leather boots.
