My only goals this year were to 1) play more (only 1 round played in 2010), 2) Try not to take it too seriously while still trying to get back into the game, 3) break 80 at least once during the 2011 season.

The first few months were very frustrating as my back was not happy with me trying to get back into the game. Some aspirin and a strong will helped me through it. I still find it hard to play a second day in a row but since I am relegated to mostly a weekend warrior I soldier through. I'm still working on the taking it/myself overly seriously but it's a work in progress.

Finally today, after I had almost given up hope on breaking 80 I was able to pull a round together. I've had better driving, putting, chipping and approach days but today I just kept it fairly steady. I did have to work through 2 double bogies but kept it all together with OK shots and one lucky drive that hit a rock 10 yards left of the green and instead of going into the lateral hazard to the left or in front kicked dead right to within 10 yards of the right side of the green.

No penalty shots which might actually make it 3 rounds in a row without a penalty. Penalties were killing me earlier in the year. 10 pars, 1 birdie, 5 bogies and 2 doubles for a crowd pleasing 78 on a par 70 course (69.6/134). I'm not dead yet and I think I'm gonna knock a few back tonight to celebrate.

Hell yeah...congratulations man! I shot my lowest round of the year thus far today, and am celebrating by watching a little football and having a nip of the whiskey.

Congrats, it's always a good feeling when we get to check off one of our goals.  80 might be a goal of mine for next year, right now I'm just trying to keep the rounds close to 90.

    • I have a putting mat in my office. It's 9 feet long almost 4 feet wide. I've drawn a line down it in order to practice hitting my line and stuff. Works fine for what it is.  While I'm not a fan of lining up a line on my golfball for every putt. I think for practice sessions it can have a lot of value.  To me this product makes sense. This is the first time I've seen it. It showed up as an add on the right side of the TST webpage. What do you all think? PuttAIM Laser Training Aid Get ready to dominate the greens like never before. PuttAIM Golf is a golf putting aid that uses laser technology to help you improve your game. This device works to ensure your putts are aligned properly and on track...
    • Of course. I've used different words to start, but like 90-95% of the time it's been this one. And I'm unlikely to switch now.

    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
