I recently had an iron fitting at my local PGA Superstore and I have decided to purchase a set of Cleveland CG16 irons.  I have found that I can purchase a new set off of Ebay (from a reputable seller with a ton of positive feedback) for a considerable discount.  My only decision now is whether I want the Black Pearl or the Satin Chrome.  From everything I have read and been told, the only difference is the look.  The prices are basically the same, so it seems like its just personal preference.

Does anybody know of any reason why I may want one over the other?  The Satin Chrome is nice and classic looking, but I kind of like the look of the black pearl for something a little different.

Thanks.

I bought my CG15 wedges in the black pearl for the look.  The black pearl finish does wear on the sole and leading edge of the club face and impact position.  Something to keep in mind if that would bother you after a while.  It probably wouldn't be nearly as bad on the standard set of irons mind you.

Just looks.. Black Pearl will show signs of fading in the color.. But it takes a while and I don't mind the faded look. Chrome would be your best bet if you don't want a 2 tone looking set of irons.

Both CG16 and CG16 Tour irons come in Satin Chrome and Black Pearl. Satin Chrome doesn't reflect sunlight like the shiny chrome will.

My X20 Tours get the same effect with a "brushed nickel" finish. An added benefit of the satin and brush finishes: they don't show bag wear as much as the shiny chrome will.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Satin chrome doesnt reflect light like a more traditional chrome will.  Personally, its satin chrome all the way for me.  Some people like the nickle will rust over time but I personally dont.

Last summer I gamed a set of Bridgestone J36s in black nickle finish and no matter how good I was about wiping the moisture off of them and oiling them after my round, they still started to rust after a while.  Nope, not a fan.

I've got the CG16 in Satin Chrome and my dad has the Black Pearl. The Black's are nice but I'd say Chrome all the way.

My 588 RTX wedges are Black Pearl which along with my black woods and hybrids gives the set a nice colour balance.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
