Ive been playing golf now for about 4 months (every saturday and a handful of times on the range) at first like any beginner i hadnt got a clue but somehow was picking up scores at around the 115/120 area,as times gone on i have broken 100 (94 to be precise) and changed a few things,i used to hook it ridiculous at first until i realised i was using a too strong grip, with a bit of work bringing it more neutral my shots are pretty straight slightly right to left if at all..i also give up on my driver for now, opting for a 3 wood instead as i can hit this 9 times out 10 of ten flush and true (my driver now slices like crazy with new grip) my irons used to be worm burners hooking left resulting in me hacking the ball up the fairways...not pretty...until last week..

me and my playing partner went to the range and being at the end of my tether with my ever worsening iron shots i decided to play them all off the left heel with what feels with a considerable amount of weight on my left foot, for my 3-hybrid,6 and 7 iron it works a treat getting distances of 190,160,145/50...i tried 8,9,PW,SW all from centre stance with the over exagerated (to me) weight on left foot and once again works brilliantly..now when it comes to the 3 and 5 wood i do exactly the same,i i adress to the ball with hands behind it (driving position lets say) then im topping, slicing ,hooking all manner of things yet when i have my hands infront of the ball playing it like my irons it flys..easily 220 + my playing partner says it looks weird as its like im puttin way to much weight on my leading leg and practically bearind down on the ball, yet my swing is relaxed and confortable...has anyone else had any experience playing there drives or woods in this way,and as its workin shall i continue as opposed to using a more traditional swing method..

I hit all my shots with the hands forward, unless it's a pitch or a sand shot.  At impact we want the handle forward, even on a driver.  If you set-up with it back, makes it harder to get it forward.  The further back the handle is, the more the path is to the left.

thats probably as close to my golf swing as i could have imagined, weight on left leg and even more so on follow through,i forgot to mention im in a more upright position for pitching and chipping, although the weight is still on my leading leg (dependant on the lie),i thought it was unorthadox and something i would have to change as everyone ive seen at the range (playing partner included) does a weight transfer during drives..im still not all clued up on the technicals of golf as i say ive only been playing 4 months, buts its reassuring that the natural swing i have (which i thought was a freakshow) is actually a correct type of swing..

I definitely like the weight forward aspect but would just suggest the weight doesn't get more than 60/65% forward on the backswing.  Can always overdo too much of a good thing

ide say ive got the weight distribution down as its at a comfortable position and i think if its any further forward im likely to fall over lol...another thing im considering is getting a driver with a higher loft than the 10.5 degree i have now, with the consistency im getting from my 3 wood i think a higher lofted driver might be good for me,especially as ive gone from hooking to slicing in the space of a grip change..what you think?? i must add that the driver has had an inch of its original shaft length would this effect shot accuracy at all?? as i say 90 percent of my shots all across the board bar the driver are straight down the line maybe a slight right to left (baby fade is it? im not sure??) im not sure whats happening with the "big dog"..

Yes adding an inch to the driver can effect accuracy and it increases the swingweight.  Just have to try out different loft and try to get on a launch monitor to see the differences.

This is my latest swing..now at 14 handicap..i play all my irons from front foot,3 wood and hybrid also, driver just inside of left heel..all connections are straight and consistant, although my 5,6,7 iron all go about the same distance (6 and 7 definately topping out at 150)..

your thoughts are most appreciated,i think i might need to get my left shoulder down more helping my left arm stay straighter through the backswing..it seems to work for me however so im not too fussed about changing it dramatically.
