Yeah apparently he picked up some kind of stomach bug in China and his white blood cell count is low at the moment so he's nowhere near fully fit. Fingers crossed it's nothing serious.

"You make it sound as if I'm on my last leg," McIlroy joked on Golf Channel’s “Morning Drive” on Tuesday. "It's not so bad. My energy levels just haven't been 100 percent. Just got more tests done today and have to wait on the results. But I feel fine. Need to do all I can to catch Luke."

He's fine, he won last week with it so it can't be that bad

Even though he may be fine, it does not guarentee he will play...It would be one thing if it was a Major, if he isn't 100% I could see him not playing just because it is Dubai, Though this is an up and coming event in my opinion

This is an important tournament on the European Tour, the climax of the Race to Dubai. Similar to the FedEx Cup Final on the PGA Tour. This isn't something like Hong Kong or a Fall Series event. I'm pretty sure he is going to play.

Looks like a hot field but think Kaymer must have a great chance out of the spotlight of the Donald v McIlroy money list race. He has hot form recently and has the experience of winning at courses in this region.

Found a good preview here if anyone is interested: http://www.liveoddsandscores.com/dubai-world-championship/493618/golf-dubai-world-championship-odds-and-betting-preview-can-luke-donald-complete-the-money-list-doubl

So Rory's first 3 holes consist of 2 tap in birdies and a double bogey 7...

And that is the last of my viewing today. I'm off to study some delightful econometrics

Donald hit the ball with a big hook off the tee on three conesecutive holes and his distance control with his irons was way off. And the putter couldn't save it.

McIlroy on the other hand made every putt he looked at on the back 9 and drove it on a string.

I'm not surprised at this (rory doing well or Luke's subpar round).  In another thread I made mention of the fact that Luke's emotional roller coaster within the past month:  new child born as well as the unexpected death of his father. I couldn't imagine going thru that sequence of events while trying to maintain a high level of golf at the same time...

Luke Donald talking about himself in the 3rd person??

Quote:
“Well, it was certainly a lot of pressure out there,” Donald said. “It’s just that I’ve got to handle it. I’m making a little bit too many unforced errors and I need to play the weekend like Luke Donald knows how to play."

    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
