Here is a preemptive "fore!" just for safety sake. So, I'm 28, Name is Eric, owned clubs when I was in my early 20's but couldn't get rid of a vicious slice. Played five rounds (carded no lower than 130 every time) and gave up after a year of banging it out on the range. In February, something sparked my interest so I talked to a buddy about getting back into it. Decided that I was determined so I bought clubs (Nike SQ Machspeed irons and an Odyssey White ice 5 putter) The buddy (8 hdcp) handed down a TM R9 SuperTri driver, TM Burner 3w, burner 3 hybrid and pair of Rac Black wedges 56 & 60. Picked up a ping walking bag and I'm good to go. Started out determined to lose the slice and sure enough, it came back on the first swing. After two range trips and adopting a stronger grip, the slice was gone. After a few more trips, it was developing into a slightly heavy draw. Started trying to straighten it back out and am currently at that stage. First round played on March 6th , I carded a 114. The next day, a 106. Since then I have played a total of seven rounds all scores have been between there. Bought a practice net and mat for backyard and feel that it has helped. I record my swing and am basically coming in too steep, over the top but have stopped the hook/hard draw by rolling back to a slightly weaker grip. This forum seems a great place to be. Can't wait to learn! Having a blast!

Update on the swing. Slowed tempo down, was rushing through transition and switching planes. Slowing down has stopped the plane issue. Also, noticed that my right elbow was flying and hips were dead (thinking it was fear of sliding backwards so they were hardly moving at all). After hours on the mat and net, I've corrected the flying elbow, switching plane and got my hips moving. Now I just have to rinse and repeat to help these changes stick. Tested out the swing at the range today and noticed a marked improvement in ball flight. Will test it out this Sunday (teeing off at 8:50 at Atchafalaya at Idlewild, much more difficult course than I'm used to playing)

Swing is improving for sure. Got my first birdie today (was nearly a 140yd dunked eagle by half a ball) although, my score hasn't really changed. The difference i'd that I am getting pars and bogeys with a couple doubles and then two or three blow up holes that bloat the score. Got myself hitting downward for the most part (still hit thin here and there) but it seems to be coming together.
