New Set of Irons???

I am looking into getting a new set of irons.  My current irons now are not bad, I just want to upgrade.  I am currently swinging the Titleist DCI 762's, but am looking to upgrade to something similar.  I love the look of the current irons, and want something that looks close to the same, with a thin top line and the bottom of the club not being bulky.  If you have any suggestions of what I should look at please feel free to tell me.  I would rather not get another set of Titleist.  Thanks in advance.

Well I'm not familure with Titleist clubs but I looked at them and would recommend a few choices like the Taylormade tour preferred line (either MB or CB depending on what you want for forgiveness) as a personal biased recommendation I'd say look at the Adams CB1 Pro Blacks are a great choice.  They offer that blade like look with a thin topline with a little bit of added forgiveness which is never a problem for players with handicaps like you and me.

What price range are you looking at?

From a quick search online it seems what you are hitting is a pretty nice iron. Do you play well with them? Think something more forgiving might serve you better?

Like you I also enjoy a thin top line. Take a look at a set of Callaway Diablo Edge Forged irons. At address they will look very close to what you have now but with more forgiveness. I also found them to be longer than what I played with previously which were Tommy Armour 845c and more forgiving.

Well I am trying to keep it as cheap as possible.  I know that will be difficult if I get something brand new, but something within the last 4 years or so would be great since mine are from 2001.  Also, until I got these Titleist all I had played were Wilson's and I loved them, I would kind of like to go back to Wilson.

Yes they are a nice iron, I just want something newer.  I hit them pretty well, but forgiveness is lacking.  I have hit my dad's Wilson Ci7's and I like them, but haven't hit them enough to really tell a big difference.

Those Titleist 762 are great clubs.  Since you don't want more Titleist irons (AP2's would have been perfect by the way) I'd recommend checking out Ping i20's and Callaway Razr X forged irons.  I'm sure one of the Mizuno guys can give you a recommendation one of their clubs too.

I agree they have been good to me for the past 4 years since I bought them.  I am just not much of a Titleist iron fan.  There are other brands I have hit better, I just never would bite the bullet and buy them.  How forgiving are the Razr X's?

Surprisingly forgiving, given their appearance.

I would expect to lose about a half club in distance when switching from those 762's.  They are one of the longest hitting irons I've hit.

You should be able to find a used set of AP2's for a really good deal. I know I see them on craigslist and golf stores for like $500 or less. Definitely worth looking into.

I've looked at the Maltby Playability Factor at some clubs.  How trust worthy is his system?

Ive had the Razr X Forged for about a week now.  Before I ordered them, I wasn't competely sure if I would have success playing them, but I can tell you, after I demoed them, I loved them!  I can honestly say I'm hitting these much more consistently than my G10s, likely because I had to fight the urge to sweep the ball with the Gs.  The Razrs are a great set though.

I wouldn't base any decisions on it.

You say you wouldn't mind going back to wilson, I've heard good things about their fg tours, which they have two versions of. They're a sweet a looking club.

I got these Staff re-issues on the Bay new for $300. They are drop dead gorgeous, and feel like butter. I think the distributor still has some left..

I think I have narrowed it down to 4 sets in which I'm hoping to demo at sometime.  The Adams Idea Tech A4 forged, Cobra S2 forged, Wilson VG V2 Tour, and Callaway Razr X Forged.
