Hi everyone!  I recently decided to overhaul my bag with new clubs (it helps that it is my 30th bday next month) and already got a nice new set of TM Burner 2.0's (replacing my Cleveland TA5's).  My dilemma is this.....I have the original Big Bertha 3 and 5 woods, and a Steelhead driver.  I also want to replace my old Carbonite putter with an Odyssey 2-ball.

Anyone have a thought on which to replace first?  I'm thinking:

1) Steelhead driver --> TM Burner SuperFast 2.0

2) Big Bertha 5-wood --> TM Burner SuperFast 2.0 3hybrid (in love with this club)

3) Carbonite putter --> Odyssey 2-ball

4) Big Bertha 3-wood --> not sure yet but I'll most likely try the TM 2.0 3-wood

I understand that the putter may be more important but god do I hate the Steelhead.

Thanks for the chatter!

Keep Calm and Chive On!

I would say Driver, Putter, 5W and then 3W.

The putter is the most important, but you are probably already used to your putter so no rush to get a new one.

After the putter, the Driver is probably one of your most used clubs (used probably 13 times a round), and seems to be the most outdated with regards to technology.

Then the 3 Hybrid, as this is a major advancement in tech, and could help you in the rough as well.

I would also put the putter here.

Finally is the 3W.

I believe you have the order I would do it in.

Thanks for the reply.

That seems to be my train-of-thought as well.  I can "live" without a new putter for now but the fact that I would rather hit a 3-wood (albeit outdated) off the tee over my driver is saying a lot.

I just hit the 3 hybrid this week at Golf Galaxy and am kind of disgusted how I didn't force myself to try it sooner.  It really feels like cheating.

I'd take a look at your game and figure out which club swap is likely to impact your score the most and do that first. You certainly use the putter the most, but whether a change is going to improve make a big difference depends on your game.

Basically, when you lose strokes, is it because you're driving into deep rough and chipping out, is it because you miss long approaches with the 3W or 5W, or do you get to the green and then 3 putt too many times?

For me, I'd probably change the 3W first because you can use it in place of the driver if you need more accuracy on the tee, and you can also use it for more second shots. Then I'd probably do the driver. Not sure on the other two, it really depends on how often you need the 5W/hybrid range. I'm not a big believer that a putter swap is going to suddenly improve putting, so I wouldn't feel the need to make that first.

In the bag:
FT-iQ 10° driver, FT 21° neutral 3H
T-Zoid Forged 15° 3W, MX-23 4-PW
Harmonized 52° GW, Tom Watson 56° SW, X-Forged Vintage 60° LW
White Hot XG #1 Putter, 33"

I agree. I hit my 3w farther than my friends drives and its easier to hit where I mess up my driver shot more often and depends on how I feel that day but there are threads of people saying how they dont even carry a driver and only have a 3w. Call the 3w more important and the driver a luxury. I may even make it last, between that and the putter.

    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
