I just recently got back into golf and it has been a few years since I've played. I went to the local club house and the pro offered some tips. He checked my swing out and told my I had a very strong right handed grip. He instructed me to put my right hand over the top of my grip with the "V" pointing between my neck and right shoulder. It was a easy adjustment to adapt to...but seeing that he is the pro and a busy man, I haven't been able to get advice from him since. Now when I swing with my new hand placement, I feel my right middle finger rubbing against my right ring finger (I'm guessing). It's gotten so bad that it's bluntly torn away a couple layers of skin and it bleeds and bothers me during my golf game and everyday activities. Why is this happening? What can I do different and still keep a more proper golf grip?

First, wear a band-aid.  Second, your swing probably needs to be smoother.  Grip pressure should come from the pinkie, ring and middle of your left hand, and middle and ring of your right hand.  Your fingers should be working together, not moving separately against each other.

I'm no expert to be sure, but - you may be gripping the club too hard.  That's been one of my issues, except the heavy wear has been on the moon of my left hand.  My grip alignment was slightly off (the v of the left hand wasn't pointing directly at the right shoulder) and I had too strong a grip on the club.

Both changes are ones I'm still adjusting to, but the loosened grip has been tough - I can't recall where I saw/heard this, but a pro tutorial suggested that a grip, on a scale of 1-10, should be in the 3-4 range.

Yes that's about right. 4-5 is what I hear often. It's true though.. it's amazing imo. I'm still working on perfecting the grip.. because right now, it feels really weird, and my left wrist feels like it has to be twisted and have some strain to it just to have the fingers and grip in the correct position. I just can't believe that's right.. I thought this game was suppose to be easy on your body!

    • I can't say that I remember a lot of individual putts, but I do have one specific memory.  The first time I played the Old Course, I had hit a pretty good drive on the 6th hole.  I had about 60 yards left, and due to the swale in front of the green, there was no chance of flying a wedge on or near the green and having it stop on the green.  My caddie recommended either a running 7-iron chip or a putt, and I took the putter and a pretty hard swing.  The ball rolled over humps and through hollows, disappeared into the swale in front of the green, and re-appeared heading right at the hole.  I ended up maybe 12 feet away.  The caddie turned and held out his hand to shake mine, and said "Now THAT was a golf shot!"
    • For the first time since 2021, I made a 3 on the 12th at Stoneleigh.    395 yards, something like 80 feet uphill, I hit a solid drive and a 7-wood to inside a foot.  Even I couldn't miss that one.  I feel like I haven't played a lot of golf this year, but I'm making decent progress.

    • I've never understood the handedness thing, I'm a righty and have always worn my watch on the wright wrist 😬
