driving range disaster

this is more of a vent then a fix my game thing. ive always been a sweeper of the ball with very good results until last week when i started trying to take divots. got the whole divot taking thing down and i can tell a difference in the hit, distance, and flight of my iron shots. golf is like a trade off though it seems cuz before trying to steepen my swing to be a divot taker i was nailing driver with ease. either dead straight or with a nice little draw. i especially draw my 3 wood and 3 hybrid. oh but today was i shocked when im hitting my irons pure and straight only to go to my woods and driver and have the shanks!!! you say go back to the sweeper swing and stop being so upright. well i tried. problem is the weight shifting part for the irons has me putting alot more weight on my left foot at the finish of the swing then i used to have. its transferring over into my driver swing which is making my body fast and hands slow and we all know what that leads to, SHANKS!!! even when i force the hands to turn over im just hitting it straight where normally that would be a big draw for me.

whats the saying? 1 step forward 3 steps back?? lol i know with time ill figure it out but just thought id rant about it. gotta love the game of golf

You are supposed to basically sweep with the driver, the club ascends slightly to impact.  The other clubs should strike the ball descending.

Ya, ascending strike on a drive is very important. Or anything tee'd really. That is why when I tee up for an Iron, I trive the tee right to the ground. Its not there to 'hit off', its there to create a perfect lie, letting me strike the ball solidly and squarely into the ground. And on the 99 yard par 3 at my course, where I have to use my 52 degree wedge, I dont use a tee at all.

my mind knows this but my body is being slow to obey lol. ive always been a one swing type of guy and now that im throwing something new in the mix its not liking it. i did play today and turned my slide with my driver into a nice baby fade. i was coming up too soon through the shot and just needed to follow through longer. im gonna still work on it cuz i like playing a draw and never wanna play fades again unless the shot really calls for it. the good news in the irons were pretty dialed in today and wow my wedge game was awesome! not just to mix them all together. i probley shot 10+ on the front nine and 6+ on the back once i had control of my driver and woods again. i can sure deal with that :)
