I seem to prefer the drivers from a few years back that are heavier than the new lightweight drivers of today. Don't know if this makes sense but  in my baseball/softball days I always used a heavier bat and not the lighter ones because I generated enough power with my body without needing the lighter bats to increase swing speeds. I am a big guy 6'3" tall and about 255 lbs. Does this make any sense as it relates to golf? The lighter clubheads and shafts throw my timing off in comparison to older clubs.

It makes complete sense. If you go out and hit the Cleveland Black 265 driver you will understand. That thing is so light its like swinging a feather. I felt like i had no control over the club. Dont get me wrong, when i made solid contact with it, it was a great club but i dont feel i couuld get a consistent swing out of it.

I am 54 years old and had switched to graphite shaft irons 2 years ago. I was never comfortable with how much lighter they were so I went back to steel shafts. I tried a Wilson DXI superlight and an Adams Fast 12 driver and I actually swung and missed the ball several times in a row. Thanks for making me feel "sane" with my question. I know lighter means faster swing speed but if a heavier club can be swung st that same speed shouldn't the ball go farther?

I do prefer to be able to feel the club head, I think it is important for tempo.

i went from the 09 burner to the RBZ driver and its taking some getting used to. the burner had some extra lengh and gave me a nice long piercing ball flight. after i switched the shaft of the RBZ to a Red ProLaunch stiff its really a great driver. feels more balanced now. i do struggle to feel the head at times but im still getting used to it

I switched to RBZ 3W Hi-Launch (4W) and 7W and 4H this summer, and the clubs are lighter than my old ones. Not superlight, but overall lighter. I am moving through he ball better, and the 4W goes 10-15 yards farther then my old, heavier 3W.

The lighter FWs now feel noticeably lighter than my irons with PX 5.0 shafts, which average about 110 grams and are fairly stiff for an R-flex. I'm 61 years old, and I think the lighter - but not the lightest - is the way to go. A player's rep at Golfsmith told me he reshafted from DG R300 to GS-95s as a 40th birthday present, and he said he's swinging more smoothly and has gained yardage with his irons. Maybe I should listen to this young guy?

I have had positive tests with iron shafts in the 95 to 105 gram range, but I'm all over the place with anything lighter. More to follow.

You're a big guy, therefore you need heavier shafts so you don't launch yourself into orbit on your follow-through. From what I learned at a clubfitting school in February, what you're doing makes perfect sense . We all need the right weight and flex in our shafts to get proper timing in our swings.

Focus, connect and follow through!

My 905-R driver seems to be at least twice as heavy as my G-10 (with the exact same V2 shaft)...

I used to prefer the weight of the 905-R , but now I prefer the weight of the G-10.  I get a sore back from the heavier drivers lol.

I have a Bridgestone driver that replaced my superfast 2.0. 3/4" shorter. When i lengthened it to the same length as my old one: it feels better at the top of my swing. A little more length added weight and a little more flex to suit my swing.
