Hey all! Just joined this forum in hopes of having a few questions answered!

I've been looking for a nice hybrid to couple with a set of Razr X HL irons that I just purchased. I would be using it off the tee a bit more than the average person and obviously in distance situations. I'm most interested in a 3-hybrid with a loft of 18-19 degrees.

At this point, my number one option is the Cobra Baffler T-Rail but I'm open to other suggestions. I could pick that up for $120 which would be a steal compared to the normal $160. However, I've found the Ping G20 for a comparable price.

Unfortunately I am unable to test the clubs as the most localized golf-oriented shop with any sort of technology is around two hours away. The local courses also don't carry any of these as demo clubs.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The baffler is a great club. I'd also check out the cleveland mashie. You can pick them up used for under $75. Great clubs and great shaft.

Not a huge fan of the ping's I had the g15 and found it to have too much offset not positive about the 20 compared to the 15 though.

Is there anything that sets either the Mashie or the Baffler apart (besides the Baffler's awesome name haha)?

The Mashie is an awesome club and you're getting a premium shaft like the poster above stated. They're really cheap nowadays also. Im thinking of picking up the 4 Hybrid myself.

That kind of loft you want is more of a 1 or 2 hybrid. I have the Razr X HL 3 hybrid that is 21* and my 4 iron Razr X HL is 22*. They have messed around with the traditional lofts so much that now there is 1* difference between two clubs, in the same set. Why they do this is beyond me. Sometimes on longer courses I drop the Gap wedge and go with a Diablo Edge Tour 2 hybrid 18* loft. Great club as far as I'm concerned and can be had for around $100. 5 woods are around the same loft as well, but I don't like them as much as a 2 Hy.

So I'd guess that 20.5 is what I'm looking for? Thanks!

Would you recommend the Razr X HL hybrids above the aforementioned?

Well its all up to whether or not you want to keep your lofts spaced out. 1* of loft makes me no difference but it may for you. I fully recommend the Razr 3 hybrid, but if you want an 18-19* its probably gonna be a 2 hybrid.

I definitely get where you're coming from now. That makes more sense. Thanks a lot for your input.

Would the 2 hybrid be a legitimate replacement for a 5 wood?

If the hybrid is 21* and the iron is 22* there's more difference between them than 1* of loft would indicate.  I'd guess the hybrid shaft is longer and the overall construction of the hybrid will typically give a golfer with a less than perfect swing longer distance than the equivilent lofted iron.

Based on my limited experience,

1h = 15*

2h = 17*

3h = 19*

4h = 21*

5h = 23*

Depending on the manufacturer these lofts can all be within a range of  + or - 1*

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I'm fairly set on the 19* Baffler T-Rail Hybrid. I'm a bit skeptical as to whether I should go with the regular or stiff flex, though. I can get relatively great deals on both but I'm not sure which flex will suit me best. That's my only issue at this point.

Also, would anyone be able to recommend hybrid-specific shafts that would be ideal? Or would stock be sufficient for now? I'm looking for mid-high trajectory with low-mid spin.

Again, any help would be great! Everyone's been incredible so far.

    • Went to a PING fitting day today. Going to be ordering a G430 Max 3w with a 75g x-stiff shaft at 5w length and a 3h. I forget what my fitter did with the shaft on that but she told me she’s going to email the club the specs of everything. The 3w combination we found pretty quickly. As for the hybrid, we tried a bunch of different head and shaft combinations for that distance with mixed results. Then she handed me the 3h and I took three swings with it and knew it was the one.
    • Yeah, this isn't sandbagging. It's outright cheating. He should be banned.
    • That’s quite a generalization. It’s clear that you don’t like water but there are plenty of us that drink it just fine. My daily intake is usually about 20oz of black coffee, 16oz of soda, 8oz of milk mixed into a protein shake, and anywhere between 30-60oz of water. It doesn’t even need to be cold and I kind of prefer it closer to room temperature than cold. I quite like the taste of tap water, with sole exception being the tap water at Magic Kingdom (it’s terrible). I can’t stand when people bring me tap water with a lemon wedge in it. I didn’t ask for lemon in my water.
