Anyone have an opinion on what the most durable tour ball is?

Since receiving my 60 degree X-tour wedge w/ Mack Daddy grooves I'm tearing apart every ball I've tried.......ProV1x (2006), Nike One Black (2006), HX Tour (2007).

Anyone know of a tour ball that this wedge won't take a chunk out of? I've heard the new Nike One balls are more durable but I haven't played one yet.

Bridgestone B330-S and the Nike One Platinum are pretty durable, better than the Pro-Vs and the Srixon Z-URS atleast.

I LOVE my mack daddy 60* wedge! To me the spin that I get with it is worth having to get new balls more often. I play the HX Tour 56. The club really eats those things up.

unfortunately, i think that is the nature of the grooves on the mack daddy wedges. they tear up the covers of balls. i have found that the balls of today, pro-v's, hx tour, b-330's, over the course of normal play, are far more durable than the balls of ten years ago, ie, tour balatas, ht-100's, professionals, etc. i don't think you will find a tour ball to stand up to the abuse that mack daddy grooves dish out. besides, mack daddy wedges will probably be outlawed within the next few years.

There really isn't a single durable tour calibur golf ball out there.

The tour calibur balls of today almost exclusively rely upon the soft outer layer to create ballspin; whereas, in the past, the interaction between the elastic band/liquid center rubber ball with the soft balata/surlyn outer shell created spin. The surlyn covers of yester-year were a lot more durable than the super-thin solf outer layers modern high-end balls use.

That being said, the most durable tour calibur balls I've hit so far is the Taylor Made TP Red. The Callaway Tour-56 is the least durable I've seen. And the Pro-V1 is somewhere between the two.

If I really drive down a ball to create a lot of spin, I'll get groove marks on any of those 3 balls, even with a mid-iron.

Thanks to all for the input.

At the recommendation of our club's Assistant Pro I tried the B330 yesterday and had my best round of the year to date. I found it to be a bit more durable than the ProV1x (2006) and One Black (also 2006 version). It also seemed to be 5-10 yds longer off the tee and just as responsive as other balls I've played around the green. Very impressive ball, I'm sold! (for now)

I found one of these at a local course and I was suprised how soft it was around the greens. Nice ball.

    • Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!
