I have been playing the Miz MP-63's for about 2 years now.  I was professionally fit for the 63s and custom ordered with the Nippon 950 shafts.  I was told these shafts are lighter (95g) and would help get my spin up. I currently am playing to a 1.6 index and really don't have any complaints about the clubs.  Although, truth be told, I substituted an Adams A12 4h for the 63 4 iron, and i don't hit the 5 all that consistently.

I am now being told (from a different PGA instructor that the Nippons are too light for my swing.  I have been taking lessons since my Miz fitting and do believe my swing is different.  So I am off to look for new set of irons.  Sure, i could just replace my current shafts, but heck, that's no fun.  The Miz swing optimizer today provided 3 options (DG 300S, PX 5.5, KBS Tour Stiff)

I have always been drawn to the TItleist AP2s, and my final decision 2 years ago was between the AP2s and the MP-63s.  Well, now I am back to looking at the AP2s. One of the PGA instructors at my club suggested I do a AP1 / AP2 combo, using the 4 & 5 AP1 and the rest AP2.  I looked at him and told him he was crazy.  I am not going from a blade like Miz to a GI AP1.  That is his setup and he suggested I ignore the shovel look of the AP1 and just hit it.  So I did.  And, I must tell you, the things are flat out awesome.  I hit about 10 in a row dead straight.  I then tried to cut and draw a couple of balls, and wow, was plenty easy enough.

I know there are some PGA players that play the AP1s, but I am questioning if I am going the wrong way.

I see Miz is coming out with the H-4 combo set in a month.   What to do?

Getting the AP1 for long irons is no big deal. You may not like the look of them,  but like you said they hit great. And as for shafts, where as Nippon is very light, DG S300 is pretty heavy. So be careful with the drastic change.

I always question why someone with a handicap of 1.6 would ask random, anonymous probably hack golfers what they should do. This is like Tiger Woods asking the guys at the gas station for advise on what clubs to buy for his next tournament.

No, it makes sense. After all, anonymous, hack golfers are giving TW advice on what clubs to use (that they have never even hit), so they must know what they're talking about?

Some guys just like feedback on their upcoming purchase.  It's unlikely anything you or anyone else say will influence his decision, so no worries.  The guy is just excited about buying new clubs and wants to share with other golf geeks.

I kinda did the same thing when I bought my Pings, i15's from 7-GW and the G15's for the 4,5 and 6. I would only warn about the difference in the offset between the two. It took me a long time to get used to the different offset. I couldn't just progressively keep moving the ball forward as the clubs got longer.

Just something to think about, I didn't and in hindsight I wish I would have got all i15's. I'm shopping now for a set of MP59's (or maybe MP58's).

Good luck
