I'm currently using an Odyssey White Hot XG Rossie putter, however I'm not so thrilled about the softness of the insert. I've been looking for something along the lines of a blade style putter, with a little more feel and have narrowed the options down to the following....

3. Titleist Scotty Cameron Studio Style Newport 2: Beautifully looking putter and the little 'pop' at impact is quite nice. Very well balanced. Mies Van de Rohe (architect) once said "God is in the details" and this putter has god written all over it...it just oozes quality. Looks hand crafted. However, I found the head a little light and the stock grip (red) too small even for my small hands. Expensive yes! $380 CAD

2. Guerin Rife Aussie: A no-nonsense, solid putter. Interesting groove technology with a softer feel than the Scotty. Well balanced with some substantial weight which appealed to me. Beautiful inlay of the Australian flag on the sole. Sweet grip. It set up so well, it shocked me...Just a damn good putter period for the price. $230 CAD

1. Odyssey Black Series #2: Nice grip, although not so fond about the black and white swirls.... The feel & sound at impact is incredibly satisfying. It really rolled the ball well. The face feels solid, while the weight feels low to the ground. Designed to sink putts. Looks mass produced though, not quite the aura of say the Scotty, but love the visible mill marks. $300 CAD.

I'd love some insights from those who have put these putters in play or had any experiences in general. Thanks!

I have the Newport 2 and am very happy with it. I am really into a groove with it, and my Red X (same insert/face) has not seen any action in a while.

I am comfortable with a 33" putter, so the head is a stock 350 grams. I think the head weight feels just fine. If you get a 34"/35", it will be lighter (340 and 330). Your pro shop may be able to order the putter with a different grip - there are tons of options. If you buy a longer Scotty and it feels light, you can always add lead tape - hey, it worked for Tiger last Friday!

I see that a shorter putter needs to be heavier than the longer one. I play a Bettinardi BB8 33" right now that I put 2 strips of lead tape along the bottom and it seems to work better. It works but I don't understand the concept.
can anyone explain the math?

It has to do with how far a weight is from an axis. Since swingweight is measured from (I believe) 14" from the grip end of the club, a longer club with the same head weight will feel heavier. So, they get lighter to compensate.

Funny thing. I work for Guerin Rife Two Bar putters. If you call in to order there is about a 1/25 chance you will get me.

If you have any questions on them, I would be more than willing to give you any sort of technical/ spec answers you may need.

Personally.... I still putt with my odyssey Dfx No 2. Although the Rife Island Aussie did give it a run for its money. if you like nice grips on your putter I would definitely recomend the Rife grips... they are an absolute dream no joke. I almost switched to the Island for that matter alone.
