putters for taller golfers

I'm 6'6". Have always used a 35" putter, but recently had a Ping belly putter cut down to 39" and I use it as a "normal" putter (not anchoring it). I'm much more comfortable with it and my putting has gotten significantly better. I also had a SuperStroke 3.0 grip put on it to accommodate my big hands. I always felt cramped and hunched with the 35" putter and would get serious back pain during long practice sessions - the 39" putter allows me to assume a much more comfortable stance.
If there's a golf store near you, try and find a Cleveland "Almost Belly" at 39 inches and just see where it feels natural for you to put your hands on the grip. If you're well down the shaft, then a standard 35 inch putter is probably fine. If not, maybe you need an extension. Or an "Almost Belly."
