I'm 62 years old, and every spring I demo some A.flex (Senior flex) clubs. I get a bit more distance than with R.flex, but I tend to spray the ball. With R.flex, I get more usable and more consistent distance. (Consistent distance critical especially in irons.)
One thing to consider is shaft weight. I may consider getting a lighter weight R.flex - maybe around 100 grams. My PX 5.0 shafts in my irons weigh about 115 grams, and feels a bit harsh sometimes.
On some irons, I have been able to get through the ball well with a lightweight S.flex shaft, especially the sub-100 gram NS Pro 8950 variety. (NS Pro is plays to a softer flex than average).
In drivers, I can hit some of the sub-60 gram graphite shafts in Stiff, but they feel a little bit light.
For driver especially, this is why you want to get fitted. I would suspect something in stiff would be best for you.
