I've been Playing Golf for: 3 Months

My current handicap index or average score is: Pretty dang high

My typical ball flight is: Topping the ball

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Topping the ball or hitting the ground before the ball

Hi guys, I'm just starting to take up golf and have been through one 2 hour lesson so far in which he helped correct my posture and told me what I SHOULD be doing.  I know that my biggest issues that I'm having is that I'm topping the ball (I topped the ball in the video) or hitting the ground before the ball (sometimes pretty decently far behind the ball).  I also know that I need to be able to walk through my shot so that it will stop me hanging back and will get me more power in my balls that I do hit correctly.

This is a video that I took yesterday and will take a few more on Sunday when I go golfing again.  Any tips would be appreciated!  I'm a bowler by nature so I'm no stranger to making adjustments and learning and I'm excited to be learning golf. :)

Welcome to the site! Couple resources you should check out

Grip looks palmy and the right thumb position is off

With the swing, the head is moving too far to the right, making solid contact hard to achieve. Shoulders need to work more like a teeter totter, left down, right up, rather than "around".

Wow, I totally see my head moving a lot more than it should and that video helps a lot.  I took a few practice swings in the backyard and it already felt better.

As far as the grip goes, I don't know why it's so difficult for me to do.  I was taught that in my lesson as well, but it does not feel comfortable to me, though I know it'll change the more I use it.

Thank you so much for the help!  I'm going to do 18 tomorrow and will hopefully take videos and do well.  Wish me luck!
