So Im in the 18th fairway, after a horrible tee shot out of bounds, a bad third shot, and a 4th shot that I hit fat, I finally find myself on the right side of the fairway about to hit my 5th shot on this long par 5.

Now playing this course before, and despite not even being able to see the green from where I was at due to trees lining the right side of the fairway, I know there is a huge bunker right in front of the green. Well, knowing that I am probably looking at a triple bogey on this hole or worse, I figured, what the hell, and pulled my 3-wood. (Sprinkler head next to the ball said it was 211 yes to the center of the green).

(The trees to the right of the fairway, and the huge bunker in front of the green. I was on the far right side of the fairway about another 60 yards back>)

So I set up and just wanting to put a good swing on it, and not even really caring where it went, I somehow manage to put one of the best swings of my life together, and the ball just took off like a rocket over the trees in the distance along the right side of the fairway.

Get in the cart and start heading down, and I do not see my ball in front of the green at all, so Im thinking, oh yay, its probably in the bunker. SO drive up to the top of the hill at the green and I look, and I see my ball sitting on the green about 10 feet from the hole (Too the left, and above the pin).

I look closer and I see my ball mark pin high about 5 feet to the left of the hole. Don't think I could do that again if I tried.

So went and played the back 9 at Silverhorn Golf Course here in San Antonio, TX yesterday. Played pretty poorly, and shot a 62. But you know what they say, there is always one shot you have that will keep you coming back.

(My ball to the back and left of the pin)

My ball mark at the bottom of the pic, just a few feet left of the pin.

Nope, missed the putt. Figures, right.

My game is starting to come together. Need to go get more lessons to get a little more consistency.

Rat lab psychologists came to this same conclusion decades ago.  If reward always given for effort, soon boredom sets in. If reward never given, quit soon. Only when reward sometimes given, does the effort become meaningful and thus consistent.   Same for the one-arm bandits at casinos, pursuing  or chasing women at the pub, and taking the 20* hybrid and knocking it stiff, once in 12 events.

Put in the effort, work, money, etc and sometimes receive the reward.  It's the 'way of the rat'.
