Just had the devastating news that we wont be playing the Stadium course at Sawgrass during our week long trip from the UK at the end of February due to a convention being held there..

Having built it up for 7 long months I am truly upset that our once in a lifetime chance to play this iconic course has gone..

Can anyone recommend a great alternative as our "showstopper" round of golf.

We are staying in Davenport but are happy to travel 2.5 hrs in any direction

Budget approx $375 per man as that was the cost we budgeted to play Sawgrass..

We are already booked to play the following

Highlands reserve

Shingle Creek

OCN (both courses)

Bella Collina

Thanks in advance for your suggestions..

Sorry that you'll miss Sawgrass, but here are two great alternatives.

Streamsong http://www.streamsongresort.com/best-florida-golf/

Hammock Beach; Ocean Course http://www.hammockbeach.com/golf/hammock-beach-courses/

Streamsong would be my first choice, but only because I haven't had the opportunity to play there yet.

You might even save a few bucks over Sawgrass, which could allow you to upgrade one of the other courses you're currently scheduled to play.  Waldorf Astoria would be my recommendation for an upgrade in the Orlando area for either Highland Reserve or Shingle Creek.

Thanks David for your advice... One of our group has been recommended world woods... Have you any knowledge of this course.. Would it rank up there with either of the options you have given us? Regards

World woods has two good courses. Neither quite in the same league as streamsong or the ocean course in my opinion though....

Welcome to TST!

Too bad about TPC SawGrass Stadium. I wanted to entice Dave to play there a couple trips ago to FL. The next time I go to FL, I really want to play there even if I lose lots of expensive balls.

That's a really nice hit list you have. Envious. . .

Thanks for the comments.. We wanted 36 at streamsong but when we tried to book we were advised we can't have buggys for either round.. Given were playing 8 rounds in the four previous days we agreed walking 36 on our last day was too much.. We're now doing 36 at world woods for a great price of €150 each..

You'll enjoy World Woods. Not "showstopper" courses, but always fun, and usually in good shape. Have fun!

I've enjoyed the King and Bear near the World Golf Village/Golf Hall of Fame the last couple of years during my week at the Players.......I've always used a Golfnow discount, so rates can get up there otherwise.  Every golfer should visit the HoF at least once, imo. Might do it while you're in the area as well.

Not sure I'd travel from Davenport though -----

I hear the LPGA courses at Daytona Beach difficult as hell....never played there.

Tampa has Innisbrook where the PGA event is played in March......the Copperhead course is one of the favorites on tour (at least we hear that from the pros every year).

Definitely stay away from Champions' Gates near Davenport- overhyped because Leadbetter's academy is there - but the courses aren't very good, imo.
