I've been Playing Golf for: 1 year

My current handicap index or average score is: 85-95

My typical ball flight is: High fade

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: slice

Hi all,

I am new to TST but I have been a keen reader these last few weeks since i have started a new job where i have access to a PC all day. I am just after a few thoughts on my swing please. I have been playing for approx a year and have always struggled with a leaky slice.

The first vid below is my original swing with the driver, this was filmed friday night when i really struggled with all parts of my swing, feeling slightly clueless haha. This was the type of range visit where you try everything under the sun and you end up completely baffled with what you are meant to be doing. I apologise for the shocking angle of the camera.

The other two vids are from today, i went to the range with a clear goal of trying to change my swing path and my main focus was dropping my hands at the top of my swing to develop an in to out swing. My lower irons seemed ok and i could tell that my swing path was improving, however my longer irons/driver were still fading with an occasional slice. Unfortunately my phone died before i could get some more videos.

Any thoughts are welcome, many thanks.

Camera angles are tough to get too specific. If possible, try to get it a little higher and inline with your hands. I would start by checking out this thread regarding your set-up... http://thesandtrap.com/t/56069/good-golf-posture-how-to-address-the-golf-ball

This may clean up some things without thinking about them.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah i thought the camera angle maybe an issue but i was struggling to find a good spot to set my phone up, will ask a stranger next time. Nice one, will give that a read and hopefully get some more vids up in the next couple of days.

Thanks for the reply mate, but that thread you suggested is the same one suggested by @Fried Egg . I've had a read of it and i think it will be very helpful. I've always seen my posture as fairly decent, athletic and actually better for my back but have been wrong all this time. I actually suffer with 2 bulging discs in my lower back so having this 's' posture may be hindering my recovery. Will get to the range tomorrow night and add some posterity to my spine.

Whoops I guess I didn't read the post that well. Missed the last line and assumed he had posted the link for camera positioning http://thesandtrap.com/t/54050/importance-of-camera-position-in-golf-swing-video-analysis it should help you put up a much more accurate swing video.

No worries. Will give that a read too :)

Finally managed to get to the range last night. Ball striking has improved a lot since Sunday when I attempted to change my path for the first time, felt a lot more comfortable. Only took a handful of clubs and was generally happy with each of them apart from the driver which was a bit hit and miss, still seem to be fading it more often than not.

I feel like my path is more from the inside now but maybe somebody can enlighten me if it isn't? from the videos to me it doesn't appear that im coming over the top as much as i used to, maybe I need to work  on my club face control with the big stick.

Along with trying to drop my hands at the top of my swing, I really tried to focus on my posture. In fact on most of my shots you can see me took my stomach in and straighten my spine just before I hit the ball. i felt it helped a lot with my shoulder turn and it felt more of a natural movement.

Camera angle should be a lot better than previous videos, attempted to line it up with my feet as much as possible.

.

Any thoughts are welcome, thanks in advance :)

You are gonna get more help if you post elsewhere and people get to know you. You have only posted here where you expect others to take time to help you. Give back before you take.

Thats fair enough. If it wasn't for work being so busy this week i would have had more time to get onto the discussions. Hoping for a quiet week next week.

Two threads I recommend you check out. Left hand looks a little palmy and your head/eyes are too far "up" at address.

Thanks for your input. You're right I do tend to get a bit palmy with my left hand, that thread is very informative and will take all of the info with me to the range tonight and hopefully apply it with some consistency. On my head, I didn't realize my head and chin were so far up until you mentioned it, ive read that posture thread but only was focusing on correcting my 's' back, will definitely focus on keeping the ball within my foveal vision tonight. Will update with another vid at some point, many thanks.

Went to the range last night. Ball striking was off and im not exactly sure why. Was trying to incorporate several changes into my swing and this may have been the reason. After reading the grip thread I changed my grip, more in the fingers and opposite thumb more over the grip. I also tried to keep my chin down to increase my vision of the ball. As well as these two changes I was thinking about my spine and club path of which I had begun to change last week. I was striking the ball awful and the majority of my shots were low sliced blocks. Despite the new grip feeling comfortable I went back to my original grip and my ball striking improved for some reason. will get a vid up soon.

    • Lemme guess….’ We don’t want any confrontation so nobody says anything.’ Sheesh…..Call him out and fix the problem.
    • Went to a PING fitting day today. Going to be ordering a G430 Max 3w with a 75g x-stiff shaft at 5w length and a 3h. I forget what my fitter did with the shaft on that but she told me she’s going to email the club the specs of everything. The 3w combination we found pretty quickly. As for the hybrid, we tried a bunch of different head and shaft combinations for that distance with mixed results. Then she handed me the 3h and I took three swings with it and knew it was the one.
    • Yeah, this isn't sandbagging. It's outright cheating. He should be banned.
    • That’s quite a generalization. It’s clear that you don’t like water but there are plenty of us that drink it just fine. My daily intake is usually about 20oz of black coffee, 16oz of soda, 8oz of milk mixed into a protein shake, and anywhere between 30-60oz of water. It doesn’t even need to be cold and I kind of prefer it closer to room temperature than cold. I quite like the taste of tap water, with sole exception being the tap water at Magic Kingdom (it’s terrible). I can’t stand when people bring me tap water with a lemon wedge in it. I didn’t ask for lemon in my water.
    • This is the part I don’t get. He’s not even kind of sandbagging, he’s blatantly doing it and submitting scores that are verified to be incorrect. How he’s not banned from competition is beyond me.
