Wedges in the standard off the shelf set

I have only bought one set of clubs and am still using them. In 2008 I bought a PING G10 set that included a 5i through L wedge. The wedges in this set are as follows;

Loft      Bounce

PW  46          10

UW  50          11

SW  54          12

LW   58          12   I have no idea what kind of grind is on any of them.

When I bought these I was fit for length, lie, grips etc. but not for bounce. In reading a lot of the posts here it appears there is a large amount of options that maybe should have been considered if I had known more at the time. Here in the Pacific Northwest the courses are not hard like in Texas but can be soft, wet and muddy a lot. With that in mind, would I be better off finding wedges with more bounce or are wedges like these that “came with the set” good all around until I get more proficient?

Those are pretty standard numbers as far as most wedges are concerned. (My 54 has 23 and my 59 has 11). Unless you really don't like them, I think they'll work just fine. I think the only way to get considerably more bounce is to get fitted for special wedges like Edel or Hopkins or the like.

I would let performance be your guide. At a 30 HDCP, take some lessons this spring to get your game a little better tuned.

Have one of the lessons be short game. The pro can tell if the wedges are OK for you.

Here's the Golf Digest Hot List (2008) description of the G10 irons:

The wide sole will help the dynamic bounce (performance bounce during swing and turf interaction) of the wedges. This means the wedges would perform at above the rated bounce. I suspect if you keep the G10 set, the stock wedges will be OK.

I am taking lessons and last weeks lesson was chipping around the green. I am getting better at using the bounce but wish I had asked the Pro what he thought of the wedges at that time. Its just that after reading all the forum posts about bounce and more is better, it got me wondering if 12 deg is good or not.
